This is my first post and would welcome help on two issues.

1. I want to install the Windows XP Backup Utility but this is not available on the Dell supplied CD for my Dimension 5150. I’m not able to find this as a download from Microsoft, is it available elsewhere?

2. In addition, or alternatively, I would like to install the Microsoft Outlook Personal folders Backup tool for Outlook 2003. But this is where I show my inexperience. Microsoft instructs to download the tool then (1) ‘to start the setup program double-click the Pfbackup.exe program file on your hard disk’ and (2) follow the instructions on screen to complete the installation’. Where and how do I find the contents of my hard disk to run the program and what instructions am I likely to encounter in the process?

Before doing anything I intend to create a ‘manual restore’ point.

Would someone be kind enough to offer an idiots guide to installation.

Thank you

1. Bob Cerelli might have what you need since no one ships with full OS disks anymore. I make no claims on this as I can't check it.

Just a bit more info.......

When you download the tool, you will see this screen...

Or something very similar depending on what browser you use. When you click Save, you must tell Windows where to store the file.

Like this.....

Look in the left hand column and select My Documents, and click save.

Once it has downloaded, hop over to your My Documents folder and find the file, pfbackup.exe, double click it to start it running.

There a few ways of creating a restore point, the easiest being...

Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore.

Once you have System Restore running, click Create a restore point, give it a name and your are done. Close System Restore again.

Thanks for the replies. RandyL, I do not intend this to be in anyway disrespectful to Bob Cerelli, but can I be confident that the backup utility I download will be a 'clean' copy? Is there a way i can check before installing? Tootech, thank you also - the Outlook pfbackup has been download without a hitch...so far!

Bob Cerelli is one of the most professional people I have ever known when it comes to computer technology.

He is also an acquaintance of mine.
