starams5 Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Hi What does your CPU usage look like in the Task Manager. Also check your mem usage, see if anything is using excessive amounts. You can also boot into safe mode to see if you have the same problem. If not, I would start looking at the startup items. Quote
bewaniuk2005 Posted May 3, 2009 Author Posted May 3, 2009 everything looks ok in the CPU usage she has 4gb ram i see nothin running mad in any processes also she only has 4 startup programs. and im defraging the hard drive now. but maybe we need to see if malware or a virus is on the laptop so whats the next step i need to take... starams5 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 If you are have a virus problem then that's a whole different matter. Here is a list of Services I have disabled. I must warn you, what may be good for me may not be good for you especially if you are using Windows networking as I use 3rd party networking. Use caution when disabling services, you can find the functions of ea service here: Windows Vista Service Configurations by Black Viper Disabled or set to Manual Services: COM + System Application Diagnostic Policy Service (Manual) Diagnostic Service Host (Manual) Distributed Link Tracking Client Function Discovery Provider Host Function Discovery Resource Publication IKE and AuthIP IPSec Keying Modules Internet Connection Sharing IP Helper IPSec Policy Agent KtmRm for Distributed Transaction Coordinator Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper Network Location Awareness (NLA) Offline Files Portable Device Enumerator Service Remote Access Connection Manager Remote Registry Routing and Remote Access Secondary Logon Security Center Server Tablet PC Input Service TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Telephony Terminal Services Windows Defender Windows Error Reporting Service Windows Firewall Windows Image Acquisition Windows Media Player Network Sharing Windows Search Windows Time (Manual) Windows Updates Quote
starams5 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Edit leave the following services at default, I've had this list for some time now and it needs to be updated, sorry. Network Location Awareness (NLA) Internet Connection Sharing Windows Image Acquisition Note: Set Windows Time to Manual or disabled only if you are using a 3rd party time server, otherwise leave a default. Tootech Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 How many antivirus programs do you have installed on this one? You had AVG and Eset installed on your other PC, the Dell 3000, and you described exactly the same symptoms. If you do have the two installed, please remove AVG. Quote
starams5 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 TooTech, good observation. Having 2 Anti-Virus applications installed is definitely a problem. Quote
