Guest Gaspar Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I have a Windows 2003 Server folder that I want to share to everyone without them having to login. I added "Anonymous Logon" to folder's security (Read & Execute, List Folder Contents and Read permissions), created the share and added "Anonymous Logon" with read permissions. But when I try to access the logon from a Windows XP, the login prompt appears. Any ideas? Thanks!

Guest Gaspar Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Re: Anonymous login to share I don't understand why do I have to use IIS with a file system share. Thanks. Guest jwgoerlich@gmail.com Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Re: Anonymous login to share How about granting the Everyone group permissions on the file system (ntfs) and network share (cifs)? Then follow article 278259 to make everyone include anonymous connections. Guest Roger Abell [MVP] Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Re: Anonymous login to share I would recommend that you look at using the Guest account (enable Guest and grant share and NTFS permisson to it). Enabling anonymous access, which is prereq to your approach working, has much broader implications (than just granting to Anonymous Logon at share and NTFS level for your need) as it enables any pre-existing grant that would cover Anonymous Logon. This can be quite broad if you also set the definition of Everyone to include Anonymous Logon as Everyone is used in a number of places. The suggestion of looking into sharing via IIS is IMO a good one as it avoids the issues of both enabling Guest and of allowing anonymous accesses.
