Guest biff Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I have access to a server and want to try to share out a folder so I can access it over the network. I have shared the folder and then given a domain group I am in full control via the share permissions. I have also given this same domain group full control of this folder via NTFS permissions. I can map the drive OK. But when I try to access it, I get "X:\ is not accessible, Access is denied" Why would I get this error if I have full control in both share and NTFS permissions?
Guest Jonathan Morningstar Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Re: trouble creating/accessing a share on a server Did tiy give yourself permissions to the share folder of X:\ itself? Did you refresh you list? Do you have a peskie Norton Personal Firewall cutting on? hth, Jonathan Morningstar "biff" <biff@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CFF01C37-2FAE-4C90-9D75-064756AC45A8@microsoft.com... >I have access to a server and want to try to share out a folder so I can > access it over the network. Guest biff Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Re: trouble creating/accessing a share on a server I am not sure what you mean by refresh the list. The drive on the server is shared for administrative purposes. I can't tweak the settings on the drive itself as it says the permissions cannot be set. The one strange thing I saw about this server is that the drive I am sharing (and that has the folder I want to share) is shown as a spanned dynamic drive whereas the other drive which I have not problem with is a basic drive. Guest Hamdan Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Re: trouble creating/accessing a share on a server ensure there are no denys remeber a deny perm will take pres. over even a full control. you have to grant control on two level the folder and NTFS which looks like you have - but double check - what are the exact perms that you have assigned both levels - finally - the users trying to access the share are you sure they are using domain level accounts and not some other accounts maybe in a diff domain group or maybe even local... Guest Daniel Rose Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Re: trouble creating/accessing a share on a server You need to ensure the users who should have access to the share also have NTFS permissions that allow the required level of access. This means you need to set NTFS permissions and Share permissions. From what you have said, it seems the NTFS permissions are not able to be changed. Perhaps this is due to the permissions being inherited. Check the advanced tab to disable inheritance, the configure NTFS permissions as appropriate.
