Have you tried doing a system restore via Safe mode to say 2 days ago?

What is the maker of your graphics or graphics card? Exactly that is.

What is the make, model and number of your PC?

Did your monitor come with software?

What is the nature of this film you were watching?

How did you adjust the brightness?

Does the taskbar display right at different resolutions?

I've looked at that photo of your monitor quite a bit. A very peculiar effect. The entire left-hand inch of the display is switched over to the right. Could be wrong but I can't help feeling it's not an actual fault. More of a setting gone awry. I expect you must have tried the monitor defaults or reset (on the monitor itself) an number of times since this happened?

About the only thing I can think of that causes peculiar displays when set wrongly is the 'Refresh rate' setting in Display Properties' (50 - 60Hz being normal. I can't see how that would have become altered though. Or perhaps your graphics card software has a setting that is amiss. Something like a dual-monitor setting been adjusted when you don't have two monitors ..or just something obscure like that.
