HPFS files

Hi, I have 2 internal hard drives both are ntfs, I have an external hard drive I use for back up etc, this drive worked fine, then it stopped letting me use it, saying that it is HPFS files. How can I get all the files off this disc. :confused:

Windows will only reconize FAT, FAT32, and NTFS unless you are using some type of conversion software to read other formats. HPFS is used for OS/2. You will need to reformat the external drive to one of the formats I mentioned above.

Thanks, I have tried to format the drive but it will not let me. Which is the best way to format the drive.

Have you tried running the command line;

 

CONVERT X: /FS:NTFS where X is the external drive letter.

Can I just add that if you do want all your data from this drive, don't format it just yet.

I never managed to retrieve my files, but I did manage to change to NTFS and format the drive by useing Partition Magic.
