Hi there,

I have a Compaq Presario V6000 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium preinstalled prior purchase. Its about 15 months old and has an X86 based pc system. My audio device is a Conexant High Definition Audio.

Ill start from the beginning with the problem I have. When I turn on my laptop first thing in the morning the audio works perfectly fine with no problems. After half an hour or so all audio ceases to occur and my volume buttons (mute also) and the speaker icon on the toolbar don't respond. If I shutdown and restart soon after this has occured I get a big red X over my speaker icon in the botton right corner claiming no audio device is detected. Any subsequent restarts soon after have the same result. However if I leave it shutdown for a few hours (ie when I go to bed) I turn it on, the audio appears to be working fine and the cycle happens all over again.

Ive attempted to download a couple of updates on the microsoft website which from the explanation given would solve my problem but the downloads failed telling me they were not applicable to my system. One of the updates I tried to download was KB959772-x86.msu. Ive also looked round a few forums and found nothing there to help me.

Thank you

Jonny_C

Hi Jonny,

Bit of an odd one it seems.

V6000's are pretty similar to HP DV6000's, and they have some awful troubles with the mainboard.

There's some useful info here

You didn't say how long its been going on for. If nothing else works, I'd be tempted to run a full recovery back to factory settings. Thats the only way I can see to check whether or not its an Operating System fault.

Ty tootech, ill have a look. Ive had loads of problems with this laptop tbh; hard drive commited suicide, the power cable suffered the same fate and half my keys decided to stop working inluding my enter key.

Hi jonny, you do seem to have had a few problems so far, so after you check out Tootechs advice, your problem may just be heat related.

If you go for a reset back to factory settings, but it still happens, perhaps it may be worth while checking the vents for dust, fluff, or other blockages, and also check if the fans are running.

If you haven't done anything else yet, it would be worth while doing those checks now.

Nev.
