Hello everyone. I have Asus f3sc 180dr laptop with Vista home premium OS inside. Yesterday vista was working fine and after my work had finished with my laptop I clicked close button to close computer... and it was closing fine actually; However during the closing, the electricity gone off. And now I can not start vista:

 

I mean when I start my computer, during the boot, it comes up with a black page with 2 options

1) Repair the boot (or something like that)

2) Start Windows normally

If I choose 1) then that page disappears for 3 seconds and comes back again... and if I choose 2) it starts booting but coming to that page again. So I was stucked with that boot recovery page. So I tried fixing the problem with bios: pressed f2 during boot... but I couldn't find any error...

 

Right now it boots and shows a bar with a header "Windows is loading files..." and then it seems like Vista will open properly but it only comes to a vista coloured backgrounded page and it stucks...

 

I'm waiting for your instructions right now... Thanks for your help

no... and I don't have a vista dvd right now but under these conditions if I can't solve it I'll buy a vista dvd BUT I really don't know if rebooting from DVD drive and overriding previous vista will solve the problem.. So what can you suggest? at least I want to try to fix it...

It sounds to me that on shutdown when the power went out the MBR (Master Boot Record) got mashed so it needs repairing.

 

Do you have access to another pc that has a dvd burner because if you do then you will be able to make a recovery disk that will repair the files?

I don't have another computer with dvd burner... But... do you mean that master boot record or a vista recovery disc from different computers hdd can solve the problem of my computers vista?

 

If this is true I can go to one of my friends house and get the recovery cd and do the recovering... OR if someone can e-mail me that...

Please allow me to state something.

 

Once upon a time when you bought a computer you got the Operating System disk with it so you could repair/re-install the operating system.

 

Now you do not, but what is not explained fully to people buying a new machine for the first time these days is that you need to immediately make Recovery Disks so then it will enable you to repair the system should a scenario like yours occur.

 

It may well be that your friends Recovery disk is for his machine only and therefore will not work on yours. These are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) disks.

 

It may be better to contact Asus for some replacement disks.

Hi again Wolfeymol... I get a vista dvd right now and I've already make the necessary bios configuration but still the same thing.... What is this... Background comes but vista installation window never appears ...

Are you saying you went out and bought a brand new copy of Vista Home Premium or is it the one from your mates next door?

Boot from the DVD (Remember to press a key when it says Press any key to boot from CD...)

 

On the first screen click next and on the second click on Repair my computer in the bottom left.

I've taken my friends vista dvd.... and I made necessary changes for booting from dvd... but the only thing I can see in the screen is vista coloured background... No window is opening for installing vista... I really don't understand... So I decided to update my bios.. and I did... but still no changes... there must be a reason ....

When you boot from the DVD, wait a while it sometimes can take a few minutes.

Are you trying to install Windows from a borrowed dvd?

Is this dvd a retail version of Windows?

Or is this dvd an OEM disk, that is a recovery or restore disk?

Well I've been waiting 15 minutes but nothing has happened...

 

I borrowed my friends Vista installation dvd.... the oem DVD that you can buy it from the Electronic device stores... it's a standart installation dvd

 

I also tried another thing; while I tried to boot from dvd I pressed F8 to and selected to open windows in safe mode... By doing so, it shows all the drivers it loads... but the last driver I could see was C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/disk.sys . Can there be a problem with that...

OEM disks are for the exact same make model and number of your PC.

 

You will need a recovery or restore set of disks for your Asus f3sc 180dr laptop or a full retail copy of Vista to reinstall. Wolfeymole mentioned this.

 

As for a repair of Vista if you had that option and it did not work you are out of luck.

 

You will need to reinstall from the disks that were supplied to you or the disks you were prompted to make. If that is no longer an an option then you will need to contact Asus for the disks or buy the full Vista.

 

Using someone elses disks to reinstall won't work if they are not full but OEM. Also it would be illegal.

hello again... something interesting happened while I was trying to fix my computer... last night I was in my friends house asked him if I can borrow the vista DVD... he said OK but I wanted to be sure if the dvd was really working: and it was working actually... So I took it... Now I'm trying to boot my computer with this dvd but my dvd drive makes some repeating sound... like it can't read the dvd... I tried the dvd in another computer just 5 moments ago and it was fine again. So if the DVD was ok then maybe my DVD drive might be broken; However, I am trying another bootable dvd right now and it's working surprisingly...

 

So let's see what we have... a non-broken DVD player, clean bootable DVD, a working computer with uncertain aftermath... What's the problem with that for god's sake? Is it about the drivers?

That is a good question. I'm not sure what we have either. Maybe someone else will know.

 

1. Your friends Windows DVD works on his computer.

 

2. Your friends Windows DVD works in another computer.

 

3. Your friends Windows DVD makes some sort of sound in your drive but will not work (boot).

 

4. A different "clean" bootable disk of some sort does work on your computer. What disk does work?

 

5. You don't have an Asus recovery disk nor did you make one.

 

6. We don't know what type of disk you borrowed. You borrowed an OEM disk from a friend but we don't know if it is one made for your particular Asus model and number.

 

To me this says that the disks are not for your computer and that's why they will not work.

 

Aside from your problem and what the cause may be your attempts at a fix are questionable. I've explained the problem with OEM disks. If the OEM recovery or install disks are not for your computer they will not match the hardware or possibly the algorithym encoded on your board.

 

You need to contact Asus and get the recovery disks for your computer or purchase a full retail copy of Vista. The needed drivers for an install will be on either disk.

 

In addition. Microsoft Windows Licensing states: You cannot use any other OEM system builder media to reinstall the operating system, or any other version of media as these versions differ from the original OEM Windows license acquired from the manufacturer, and thus can't be substituted for that original license.

 

If you did not originally receive a backup copy of the software that can be used for reinstallation, or if you no longer have it, you will need to contact the original manufacturer and request replacement recovery media; You may use that media to reinstall the operating system on that machine.

 

I'm sorry but any attempt to help you with using these disks seems to indicate that they are not yours and violate Microsofts licensing rules and as such violate our rules on offering support.
