Id like to compress some files on my Windows 2003 Servers and want to use

some free software. Love to hear your recommendations.

I have heard about Winrar and PKZip. I believe they are not free.

What's wrong with the file compression software that comes with

Windows? Do you want to compress files on the disk or compress files

for export?

Give 7Zip 4.57 a shot. Free and compressed to ZIP or 7Zip format.

Supports a bunch of formats as well.

Your question is answered by clicking on Windows Help. One search

word that results in assistance - enter 'compression'. Discussions

on how to do thing and an overview are available.

A best third party software because its cost is near zero is PKzip.

What makes it so 'free'? 1) it is reliable - a major consideration.

2) it is ubiquitous. 3) price is so low at to be all but zero.
