maynardvdm Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Ok it looks like you can, but when i look at the spec i dont see a CD/DVD ROM which you'll need to install Windows. You can get an external drive and use that. Also hear if someone else has a better solution. Quote We are all members helping other members. Guest Wolfeymole Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 By the very nature of Netbooks and their size they don't have a cdrom drive included so obviously you will have to acquire one should you wish to install windows in any flavour, the flavour can be no tastier than XP though with the limited capacity you have on there. You will also have to completely eradicate any vestiges of the linux operating system on there before installing XP. Things to consider. Quote
huggybear Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 Thanks so how do i remove all of the linux operating system? How much would it cost me to put on Windows XP or Vista. Rob Quote
Tootech Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Have a read of this for starters. How to Install Windows XP on an Acer Aspire One | Acer Aspire One Blog You can buy XP from here Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition-SP3/SP2- Licence and media - 1 PC - OEM - CD - English - Ebuyer I am curious as to why you don't just buy yourself a Netbook with Windows XP installed ? jessejazza Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Thanks so how do i remove all of the linux operating system? How much would it cost me to put on Windows XP or Vista. Rob I thought netbooks were slower and had less memory than a laptop and so were more suited to linux. Linux will be overwritten when the disk is formatted. Would win2k be a better bet - still supported, probably free (if you ask nicely!), uses less resources. [i am considering a win2k installation instead of XP on my machine - i hate the eye candy]. zinglebarb Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 (edited) Once you own XP you can boot and install it from USB very easily indeed. You will also need a 1 gig usb flash drive Create a dos boot disc using this app HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8 Download - EXTREME Overclocking When asked point to the dos files I have uploaded for you copy i386 directory from you xp cd to your flash drive boot pc from flash drive you will be greeted with a C:\ or an A:\ type this command "cd i368" without the " and hit enter then you will get *:\i386\ here you type "WINNT" and the install should start. You may need to type WINNT32 but I dont when I use thisboot files.zip Edited May 31, 2009 by zinglebarb Quote Q9550 P5Q pro mobo 4 gig pc8500 ATI 4870 Scythe CPU cooler Vista X64 5 HDDs 3 optical OCZ modular psu
