Guest MShapira Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Hi I have school domain of 30 identical XP machines, all computers have to same hardware/software configuration duplicated with ghost. it has been working for a few week, but now i hve to re-clone the ghost onto 5 computers (for software installation reasons). I copied from one working computer to 5 others, and now when I try to add theese computers to the domain, I get the following error (transalated): "cannot add computer to domain because the is not enough disk space on domain computer or controller" my account is the domain administrator, i have plenty of HD space on the server, im stuck! Thanks
Guest net_admin Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 RE: cannot add computers to domain Not sure if this is the same case, but in the past I had an error similar to that. The cause (after days searching) was that my user was member of too many other groups and worse, they were all nested into other groups. -- NetAdmin <São Paulo, BR> "MShapira" wrote: > Hi > I have school domain of 30 identical XP machines, all computers have to same > hardware/software configuration duplicated with ghost. > it has been working for a few week, but now i hve to re-clone the ghost onto > 5 computers (for software installation reasons). Guest Meinolf Weber Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 RE: cannot add computers to domain Hello MShapira, Have you syspreped the cloned machines before adding them to the domain? Guest MShapira Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 RE: cannot add computers to domain possibly not, however, the i tried to add to domain when all other computer were off, to maek sure i don't get network conflicts, and i changed the name of the computer+restart before attempting to add also, the i tried from an existing (not from the cloned copy) computer (removing + adding to domain) and i get the same error "Meinolf Weber" wrote: > Hello MShapira, > > Have you syspreped the cloned machines before adding them to the domain? > > Best regards > > Meinolf Weber > Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers > no rights. > ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups > ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm > > > this is not the case > > i'm trying to add a computer, to be a member of domain computers, and > > the > > administrator acount adding it is a Builtin > > "net_admin" wrote: > > > >> Not sure if this is the same case, but in the past I had an error > >> similar to > >> that. > >> The cause (after days searching) was that my user was member of too > >> many > >> other groups and worse, they were all nested into other groups. > >> -- NetAdmin <São Paulo, BR> > >> > >> "MShapira" wrote: > >> > >>> Hi > >>> I have school domain of 30 identical XP machines, all computers have > >>> to same > >>> hardware/software configuration duplicated with ghost. > >>> it has been working for a few week, but now i hve to re-clone the > >>> ghost onto > >>> 5 computers (for software installation reasons). Guest Meinolf Weber Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 RE: cannot add computers to domain Hello MShapira, Even if you change the name of the computer you have the SAME Security Identifier which can create a lot of problems. Like you have now. Every SID should only exist ONE TIME in the complete domain. Please run sysprep on the machines before adding them to the domain. It will delete the SID which is in use. Here you can download it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3E90DC91-AC56-4665-949B-BEDA3080E0F6&displaylang=en Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm > possibly not, however, the i tried to add to domain when all other > computer > were off, to maek sure i don't get network conflicts, and i changed > the name > of the computer+restart before attempting to add > also, the i tried from an existing (not from the cloned copy) computer > (removing + adding to domain) and i get the same error > "Meinolf Weber" wrote: > >> Hello MShapira, >> >> Have you syspreped the cloned machines before adding them to the >> domain? >> >> Best regards >> >> Meinolf Weber >> Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and >> confers >> no rights. >> ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups >> ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm >>> this is not the case >>> i'm trying to add a computer, to be a member of domain computers, >>> and >>> the >>> administrator acount adding it is a Builtin >>> "net_admin" wrote: >>>> Not sure if this is the same case, but in the past I had an error >>>> similar to >>>> that. >>>> The cause (after days searching) was that my user was member of too >>>> many >>>> other groups and worse, they were all nested into other groups. >>>> -- NetAdmin <São Paulo, BR> >>>> "MShapira" wrote: >>>> >>>>> Hi >>>>> I have school domain of 30 identical XP machines, all computers >>>>> have >>>>> to same >>>>> hardware/software configuration duplicated with ghost. >>>>> it has been working for a few week, but now i hve to re-clone the >>>>> ghost onto >>>>> 5 computers (for software installation reasons). Guest Anteaus Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 RE: cannot add computers to domain There is a utility called NewSID which will do this without all the grief of sysprep. http://sysinternals.com Also you need to remove the old entry from the AD first, if the new computer is to have the same name.
Guest MShapira Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 RE: cannot add computers to domain thanks loads!!!!!!
