FRS Service Doesn't Start

Hello,

I have a Windows 2003 DC on which the FRS won't start. I just get a generic

message saying that it didn't respond in a timely manner. I just installed

SP 2 hoping that might help but it didn't. Can you point me to some

troubleshooting steps? I found articles on troubleshooting FRS but they

aren't much help if the service just won't start. Thanks.

Re: FRS Service Doesn't Start

Check the event logs or also you might try;

sc query "ntfrs"

to see what win32 exit code is generated.

This tool may help.

RE: FRS Service Doesn't Start

Thank you. I already saw this article but it is no help in my situation.

All it says if the service won't start is to check the FRS event log.

However because the service is not starting nothing is getting written to the

event log. Nothing is getting written to the %systemroot%\debug folder

either.

Re: FRS Service Doesn't Start

Again there is nothing in the event log as the service it not started, except

this:

Event Type: Error

Event Source: Service Control Manager

Event Category: None

Event ID: 7009

Date: 12/21/2007

Time: 11:07:14 AM

User: N/A

Computer: NWMED1

Description:

Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the File Replication Service

service to connect.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Here are the results of the sc query:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>sc query "ntfrs"

SERVICE_NAME: ntfrs

TYPE : 10 WIN32_OWN_PROCESS

STATE : 1 STOPPED

(NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE,

IGNORES_SHUTDOWN))

WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)

SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)

CHECKPOINT : 0x0

WAIT_HINT : 0x0

I already tried the frsdiag tool but couldn't find any useful info since the

service wasn't running.........

I am having the same problem. I am able to start the service from the command

line or from the Service MMC. It continues to run until I restart the server.

Then it is back to having to manually start it. There is nothing in the

Application, File Replication or System logs, SC Query or in the outputs from

FRSDiag that seem to point to any problems.

Thanks for the help,

I found this in the NtFrs_005.log.
