I4n Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 No, nothing to do with swearing parrots or the like, at present I have a Venezaulan house geust studying for an International Bacaloreate. She arrived with her own laptop fom home which has Vista loaded and works pretty well but a minor problem that I cannot resolve is the machines language. In the Vista regional settings, everything has been selected to run in "English United Kingdom" but it will not changover from Spanish. There is only one account on the machine so it's not an administator issue. I have not been in to the BIOS to change the language there, do you think this will give Vista the necessary hint or has anyone else encountered and resolved a similar issue  Quote If it ain't broke.........
starams5 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Hi Have you tried it exactly this way? Change the display language - Windows Vista Help Also, run Windows Updates and see if the language you are trying to change to is available as an update, in other words the language pack may be missing. And I wouldn't change anything in the bios, that may be a decision you come to regret. Quote
RandyL Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Although there are some settings you can change in how Windows displays certain things in different languages it only goes so far. 1. Numbers, dates, currencies and time. 2. Third party software such as news and weather. 3. Keyboards and such. 4. Set up a switch to go back and forth. What you can not do is switch Windows completely to work in a different language. That choice has to be made at the time Windows is installed. You pick the region and language at that time. If you reinstall Windows you can pick the new settings at that time. Of course all data will be lost. Quote We are all members helping other members. I4n Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 Oh well, looks like we will have to put up with the schitzoid machine as it is:rolleyes: Starams5, I followed the link and I had already tried those actions but the link was usefull as I picked up a few tips. Randy, yes that makes perfect sense when you think about it, does make things a little inflexible though doesn't it. :closed_2: Quote If it ain't broke.........
RandyL Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 It is a pain in situations like this. I wonder how big the OS would be though if every region and language was included in the install.
