kane Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I bought some new RAM to expand to the full capacity for my pc which is only 512mb. I have 384mb installed at the moment so i bought a 256mb stick to replace 128mb. When i fitted it it only showed 256mb so i swapped them over but it still only showed 256mb. I phoned the site that i purchased it from, they sounded surprised that it didn't work but sent me another 256mb stick free of charge. This 1 was made by Kingston, the same as the working stick installed so i thought maybe that would work but still nothing. I tried the 2 new sticks together and the computer didn't come on at all. I ordered the PC133 256mb SDRAM as recommended by the Crucial Memory Checker, is there anything i can do to get the RAM to work is it likely i have been sold duds? Thanks for any help Quote

Guest Wolfeymole Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Try the latest 256mb on its own or in a different slot out of the 3. If that doesn't work then I reckon you've been sold a pup. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Hi Kane, from what you say, the original memory is OK, but if that is removed and the new ones fitted nothing works? We really could do with knowing full details of model number and type of Ram, plus the mother board details to go any further. It may just be some inconsequential looking number difference but it could prove the new RAM is incompatible with the mother board. We need to know to help further.
