Guest ST3V3 Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Windows Home Server - Remote Access to computers not supported on this operating system (Vista "Premium") I purchased a HP Windows Home Server system, where one of the advertised features enables you to remotely connect to the desktop of your home computers. I have the WHS system setup, and can access the (WHS) server remotely (from outside my network), however all the computers on my home network are listed as: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition - * Not supported on this operating system. I understand the Remote Desktop Connection (host) is crippled in the Vista "Premium" version, however I was under the impression (via all the advertising hype) that Windows Home Server, would enable this feature on Vista Home Premium versions. Now I am being told by Microsoft that the Windows HOME Server remote access does not work with the Windows HOME versions of Vista, including their "Premium" version. The WHS team claims they can not do anything about this, as it is an issue with Windows Vista - internal finger pointing. Somehow we need to get the issue escalated to Ballmer or Gates level. I'm sure they would understand this major disconnect in their product marketing.

However, this is a feature of WHS from a routing perspective, does not change the SKU and feature on your clients, so they have to meet the prereq's. Many customers are running legacy versions of the OS like XP Professional which has this feature or Vista Ultimate or push customers to purchase/upgrade their clients to Ultimate/Business, etc. This is one method to get customers to purchase higher end SKU's containing all the features available to the OS. daveg
