Yes I did. On the same day my Avira anti-virus trial ran out and I installed McAfee. So it is either something to do with Java or McAfee.

If you have one of the Mcafee Security Suites it will have a firewall.

Check the Firewall>Programs Permissions. Make sure JAVAW.EXE has Full Access.

I have uninstalled McAfee I have even done a system restore and it`s still not fixed it. When I go to this commodore64 games website where I first noticed it because the games weren`t working , it now just instantly closes down my browser every time I visit the site. Really weird.

I just tried to log on to a sports betting site called spreadex and I got this message.

It seems pretty much that Java isn't working at all at the moment, I can only suggest going back to add or remove programs, uninstall all Java entries, then go back to the Java site and do a fresh install from there.

If any more problems after that, it may need a reconfigure of firewall settings, let us know how you get on.

The message the spreadex page is giving could just be saying what the problem is. JavaScript is disabled. JavaScript is different to Java. Get JavaScript right and the rest might fall into place.

Have a look at this site and run over the green menu bar with your mouse. Do you get some blue sub-menus appear? If not, then JavaScript is the problem, not Java.

If/when experimenting with this page, you'd need to refresh the the page before any change of setting would take effect. For instance, it wouldn't be any good if you enabled JavaScript and then expected it to work immediately. A page refresh would be necessary to see if what you tried had worked.
