hi, wondered if anyone had any advice on this, i'm getting an error message when i try and turn off my computer saying my profile storage space has been exceeded. i've dealeated everything i can which i know is safe, but it's still too big.

i've searched the web, which hasn't provided a solution but suggests it's a problem with policy settings, but not being that well versed i'm having trouble figuring this out myself, sorry.

i run xp, and this has occured since some general problems mean i had to do a partial reinstall. i frequently get the blue screen crashes, don't know if this is related or due to the fact i have to turn the power off to close the computer down.

some sites (including this one) mention a programme called "Poledit.exe" but this isn't recognised when i input it to the run tab.

as suggested in a relevant thread here, i tried the mmc/ add group policy snap in thing, but there's no group policy in the available snap ins list

any thoughts would be great!

thanks,

colin

I'm confused as there is no such thing Colin, can you explain exactly what you did on that occasion please.

I had the same warning a couple of months ago after my son was downloading music?. I tried installing AV and Spyware software but eventually re-formatted drive and re-installed programmes and set internet security level to high. Since then I've had no problems.

thanks all for the help!

wolfey, sorry, i meant i did a repair rather than a full reinstall of windows.

jelly bean, yeah i followed that previously (most internet help pointed towards uni sites which said similar things). is it safe to delete the 'temp' folder in application data? i read it might mess things up.

tootech, i couldn't find anything, but the folk that do viruses are no doubt smarter than me!

roddy, cheers, i saw that thread i think, hoping to avoid wiping everything out, but i'm backing everything up just in case.

thanks for your time everyone.

Download the file below and unzip it.

Create a new System Restore point

Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore

Select Create a restore point, give it a name and click Create.

Close System Restore.

Double click the file Profile_Fix.reg that you have unzipped, click Yes to the prompt to merge.

When done, restart your computer.

Run another shutdown to check it - has the problem gone away now?
