itunes help

Ive recently changed providers from Wanadoo to Talktalk, and now I can't open itunes. I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling, but when I click on the icon it flashes to a picture of a file then back again and nothing happens. Please help if possible as i'm getting really bored with the music on my ipod. I have xp 2002 and the computer is hp pavilion 7806. i have the free version of avg, as my norton has expired (i haven't removed it - could this have something to do with it??). I'm also having problems with msn as i bring it up, all the emoticons look like they're in a black box and when i try to send a message the whole thing just dissapears. please help if you can

it is never a really good idea to havbe 2 anti viruses running at the same time.to remove norton use the symantec removal tool download it from http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039.

regarding itunes,try to delete the apple folder in application data.to do this go to c:\ then click on tools>folder options then tick "show hideenfiles.folders.click ok

now browse to c:\documents and settings\"your username"\application data\apple(maybe apple computer\then delete itunes.

then restart your pc and try to see if it will load.also do you have the latest version of quick time installed.

 

just so we know there isnt anything lurking in there causing this can you do the following

go to start>run>enter "msconfig"without quotes,t

hen go to the startub tab,

list what is in there and let us know,

also click on the services tab,

tick hide all microsoft services,then also list what is in there.

i know it may be a pain in the rear,writing all the entries down,but this will help us know if you have something starting up when you turn your machine on,that may be causing this.

Hi danzil, thanks for replying.

Tried deleting apple folder then reloading, but still can't get itunes to come up. I've deleted Norton, but now when i try using Media player I get 'an internal application error has occured'.

Here's the list in the startup. Selective startup - Process System.INI File, Process WIN.INI File, Load System Services, Load Startup items, Use original BOOT.INI

In Services - AVG7 alertmanager services - Grisoft - running

AVG7 update services - Grisoft - running

ipod service - unknown - running

Machine debug manager - unknown - running

pml driver HP212 - HP - stopped

Messenger sharing folder - stopped

 

Hope all this makes sense to you

can you click on the startup tab and then list what is in there.uninstall avg and try another av company.i do not like nor trust avg (but that is my opinion).try nod32 you can get a 30 day trial from http://www.eset.co.uk.

or download avast or clamwin just google for them.

downlaod ewido and update and run a scan with that too.

are oyu using the latest itunes version.i believe there are numerous peop;e having the same issue as you.i will search and see if there is a fix...try the above to make sure though

I've got rid of avg and installed clamwin. The version of itunes is 7.3.1.3

ok can you untick these items,,,they are not needed to be ran at startup...

there is 2 spyware entries in there so hopefully this will stop them...

as for the "warning cant open file hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys." do not worry these are system files and cannot be scanned usually anyhow...

 

have you had clamwin remove the gba 140.exe dialer....if not please do so..

 

 

can you uninstall your itunes and try an older version for me..i know there is a lot of issues with new version.

sorry for being such a schmuck, but how do i get clamwin to do that?

mmm i do not use clam win...but there should be an option to delete it or quarantine it...

when it has completed a scan does it not say removed,quarantine etc.

Alternativly download a 30 day trial of nod32 fromm http://www.eset.co.uk probably one of the best anti virus products out to date (my opnion)
