Blinkin'pigeon!

So there I was, sitting at the computer with my back towards an open door that leads into the garden. I heard a noise behind me and when I looked around, a wood pigeon that had walked indoors panicked. In fact we both panicked. The only difference between me and the pigeon was that I didn't fly further into the house and start knocking ornaments all over the place! It's surprising how big a wood pigeon looks when it's flying around the lounge. It eventually batted itself against the window and this stunned it. I went and got a towel, threw it over the pigeon, gathered it up, took it outside and released it.

 

Last week I came up to the door from the outside and saw a couple of blue tits (not always a rude word) come flying out, so they thought it OK to come in as well. A couple of years ago we had a squirrel come indoors and we had an awful job getting it out ...then it tried to come back in again!

 

I don't know what it is about our house but the creatures that should remain in the garden seem to think they can come in. Maybe it's because I like to look after wildlife and throw food down but that's only out in the garden. I might have to close Wellies's Cafe down if they keep getting too friendly.

A few months ago I was going to pick my daughter up from school and I found an injured wood pigeon it was a young one.

 

It was all wet and shivering.

 

I took it home into the warm house and it soon dried out and became rather alert.

 

I phoned the RSPCA who within the hour came to pick it up.

Some years ago I got a pigeon in my middle room. However it didn't get there voluntarily, the cat brought it in!! and without doing it much damage.

The cat did the usual "Meeooww look at what I have brought for you, thereby letting it go.

 

The ensuing mayhem of me, cat, pigeon, current girl friend plus sweeping brush, was to say the least comical, and fortunately not too damaging, just some paintwork round the doorway chipped. (Not too sure how that happened :confused: )

It did take some time to persuade said pigeon to go through into the kitchen, then out the door into the yard, but we succeeded in the end. :D

Very good stories :). Here's one more. When I worked for Radio Rentals, our workshop was a converted dance hall. It dated back to the war years and had a fireplace that had been bricked up. A pigeon got down the chimney and sat cooing at us though a small grille that had been put in for chimney-airing purposes. We got the pigeon out and let it go. It wasn't long before it happened again. I'm not sure if it was the same pigeon. They all look the same to me. This time, one of our engineers who was experienced in keeping pigeons said he knew how to stop it.

 

He got the pigeon out and placed it underneath an upturned metal waste-paper bin. He then proceeded to bash the bin over and over with a 2BA box spanner. It must have been hell for the poor old pigeon in there!! Anyway, after a few minutes of this, he took the bin outside and let the pigeon go. He was right. We were never troubled by pigeons again. Can't say as I'm surprised really. :D

To be honest I may of saved that young ones life but adult pigeons I am terrified of.

 

Sitting in Swansea town center with my daughter eating pasties and giant cookies they came around me.Begging as they do.

 

They got closer and closer.I wriggled I squirmed.I used my foot to try and chase them.

 

I was about to freak (yes scream at the top of my lungs) as they were inches away from me when the council road cleaners came along and I asked them to chase the sky rats,the guy chased them for me.I was saved.

 

Yet I had no issues picking up a young wood pigeon.But at the time I thought it was a baby seagal or I possibly would never of picked it up.RSPCA told me what it was.

The cat I had at the time mentioned was a sod for bringing things home, mostly still alive too, I have had rabbits, (he got them from a guy down the road who bred them and had a hole in the fence). All the usual small field mice, a hedgehog, (how did he manage that? I don't know) and once a quite large and very colourful exotic type of fish, who's fish tank he raided I never found out, but the fish had died from being out of water by then.

That was my old cat, he died a few years ago. the one I have now is even worse at being violent, but usually at me!!!.

We keep getting birds flying into our kitchen window, it's a double glazed unit but they still fly straight into the glass :rolleyes: The last one was a Wood Pigeon, left a complete collision print of one side of it's head, chest and wings. :eek:

Sky anytime has Hitchcocks "The Birds" at the moment, don't want to start a panic or anything :D:D:eek::eek::eek::D:D:D

Once I had a Hummingbird fly in through my front door when I opened it to leave. X2 and I spent the better part of an hour catching it. Actually, I think it ran out of 'gas'. We fed it some sugar water with an eyedropper and then released it outside. Took lots of pictures of it though.

I don't know about being a Dr. Dolittle I4n but I gave that pigeon a good old talking to once I had it my grasp. They tend to bat against the window as well. Heck of a bang they make too!

 

We had a blackbird do the same thing and it ended up laying on the patio. I gathered it up, put it on a blanket, got it some water and put it underneath an upturned washing basket to keep the cats off. I thought it would die overnight but I took the basket away in the morning and it immediately flew away.

 

That's a bit more of an exotic bird to have indoors than having a plain old pigeon Cobra ...Hmmmmmmmm! :)
