icon images on terminal server

Recommended Posts

Posted

Following a recent reboot all of the PDF and MSOffice document and

program icons became plain white rectangles, as if there is no program

association. Double clicking on the icon still opens the file so the

association is still there - just no icon image.

I deleted the icon cache (C:\WINNT\ShellIconCache) AND ran rebuild

icons in TWEAK UI AND rebooted - no change.

Folder icons and Internet Explorer, Outlook, Recycle Bin, Zip Files,

Wordpad, Calculator display properly it is MSOffice and PDF that seem

to be the issue.

Suggestions?

What is the Windows version and services pack of Terminal Services are you

running?

Does this happen to all users?

Does this happen if you logon to physical console? If it does happen, then

it may not be Terminal Services specific issues, you may get better

suggestions from other usergroups.

Thanks

Soo,

Thanks for your post. It is a W2K TS and it is fully patched and up to

date. It is part of an SBS 2K3 R2 Domain. The issue affect all users

(including Administrator) in TS sessions only. The issue soes NOT

occur when logging into the console - all ICONS appear normal.

The installations are both local and have bene fine since the server

was built 8 months ago. The icon issue started recently on only one of

two terminal servers we have - both are configured very similarly. I

deleted the icon cache (C:\WINNT\ShellIconCache) AND ran rebuild

icons in TWEAK UI (in a session - pehaps this should be done with a

console login?) AND rebooted - no change.

I logged into the console and deleted the icon cache and ran TWEAKUI

rebuild icons and now the local session has the same issue. When I

check file properties the icon image shows up correctly on the

properties page.

When I try to change the icon for a program shortcut the [Find Target]

and [Chnage Icon] button are greayed out and not available

Any suggestions?
