hello.

Friend brought me there computer because it stopped working.

The problem is when you turn it on all you get is a blank black screen you can here everything else in the computer start up fine and u can here it open msn and bits just no picture.

i think its either the screen that has gone or its the graphic card, i tried plugging the computer into a external monitor and nothing came up i checked the cable and the screen by doing that same with another computer and it worked so i now think its the graphics card.

just thought i would see what other people thought about the problem

Its a packard bell note book.

thank you for any help you can give

Dan

Hi Dan

Welcome to FPCH

It does indeed sound like the onboard graphics have died but did you change the output to external by pressing one of the Function keys?

On my Acer it's F5

Ok just to be absolutely precise here let me get this right.

You tried the lappy on a known working monitor and nothing?

Then you tried the known working monitor on a good PC and all was ok yes?

If this is the case then the lappys graphics are shot.

Very well Dan

To my mind it would be not cost effective to have a new card, it can't really be called a card, fitted to the laptop.

Time for a trip to the shops for a new laptop but please tell your friends not to go to PC World as in my opinion I wouldn't allow them to advise me on a mouse mat.

yup did tell them the worst would be the card had gone and they would need a new laptop.

Have to agree with you about pc world they should try training their staff before setting them customers.

Thank you for your time
