Ideally, you would restore the backed-up data to Win98 and then use Files and Settings Transfer (FAST) wizard to transfer all of your data to the WinXP machine. Old question in XP general newsgroup. No, older windows backup files from prior windows will not restore using windows backup in XP. Dave
