Jelly Bean Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Hello and welcome to the forum. You cannot resize C due to it is so full. The PC proberly crashed due to lack of space on the hard drive. If you can access C drive and backup some files to disk/external hard drive or USB pen drive we could possibly help you out. Jelly Bean. Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
zinglebarb Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 start again? is reinstalling an option? any formatting of existing c: will stop machine booting there is not a simple solution to this Q9550 P5Q pro mobo 4 gig pc8500 ATI 4870 Scythe CPU cooler Vista X64 5 HDDs 3 optical OCZ modular psu
zinglebarb Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 There is a possible way but you may need a live cd If you open c: and ensure show all files and protected operating system files are shown. delete everything that is not on the root of C: then in theory if you copy all the files off D: to C: but making sure none of the root files are overwritten you may well end up with a system with 2 working operating systems on. I assume you have a dual boot option when the machine boots up? This is purely theoretical ive never tried this but the theory seems ok I think. If you get any file copy errors thats when you know you need a live operating system to boot from. All the hidden files on the root of C: are what makes the machine to boot so these have to be kept intact hence no format Q9550 P5Q pro mobo 4 gig pc8500 ATI 4870 Scythe CPU cooler Vista X64 5 HDDs 3 optical OCZ modular psu
Kin_Hell Posted June 1, 2009 Author Posted June 1, 2009 I had 60gb free when it crashed, it wouldnt log on  Im currently running on my D partiton Its fine No more space tho :S
Jelly Bean Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I would plug the hard drive into another computer as a slave and remove the data. Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
zinglebarb Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I would plug the hard drive into another computer as a slave and remove the data. he says in his first post in this thread his files are backed up ;) Q9550 P5Q pro mobo 4 gig pc8500 ATI 4870 Scythe CPU cooler Vista X64 5 HDDs 3 optical OCZ modular psu
Jelly Bean Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 If all files are backed up else were then I would reinstall windows or use the recovery console. Although if there was a hidden recovery on D drive it is now lost as windows is installed on it. The issue maybe C is dead and he needs a new hard drive. If its dead then there is no way to resize the partition. Or possibly C needs to be formatted via disk management? Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Kin_Hell Posted June 1, 2009 Author Posted June 1, 2009 So what shall i do then? reformat my C drive? NTFS and then reinstall windows and then delete the D partiton? Or what? I am currently running on the D partition
Jelly Bean Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Kin if your data is backed up then reinstall windows on C drive and let me know if that works. During the install you can delete and resize partitions. Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Kin_Hell Posted June 1, 2009 Author Posted June 1, 2009 Ive got all of my stuff that i need, so should i just Putt XP on t the C then? and after install delte the D?
Jelly Bean Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 You can delte D while in the install process or once installed XP on C drive via a third party software. Delete D and resize C during install. Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 What exactly does it say on the XP disk that you are using to install?
Kin_Hell Posted June 1, 2009 Author Posted June 1, 2009 Its a copied disk from someone i know who has a Buisness key How do i do that? Cant i just install XP, then delet that partion?
Jelly Bean Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Yes you can if you wish to. However as you have a disk that is not legal we cannot help you with the install. Although you know how to do this you can continue if you wish. All I can say is if the install doesnt work that C partition maybe dead. This thread is now closed.
