Hey all,

I've been having an issue recently trying to play Dawn of War.. Basically i'm unable to run the game due to an error message which appears after the CD icon cursor spins for a few minutes.

Error message =

"Please insert the Original Copy of the disk and not a Backup copy. See securom.com/copy for more details"

or

"Unable to Authenticate CD within given time limit"

I've done some research into this and found Daemon tools can cause this problem. I did have this installed but have removed this and still the problem persists. I have tried:

  • Re-Installing the Game twice
  • Downloading Daemon Tools again and uninstalling the program to ensure all traces are removed
  • Made sure my CD Drive is DMA enabled etc.

I'm really not sure where to go from here - i've tried creating an analysis file which securom states is needed for their techie peeps but this apparently creates the log file in a directory that doesn't even exist! (well in my Vista Installation anyway).

Does anyone have any Ideas about this?

Thankyou in advance.

*I'm currently using Windows Vista Business 64-bit.

Is this the original disk?

It does seem that you are not alone.

The log file will be created in the root directory of your computer. Look in C: It will not be an any sub directories of C:

By the mere fact that you are having to use Deamon tools means that it is NOT an original disk.

This thread is now closed.

If you get the orininal disk then we can help you.

This thread is open again as BJD88 told me he has the original disk.

Have you tried uninstalling deamon tools and then put the disk in your CD-ROM.

Can you tell us exactly what you do to get that error?

My deepest thanks - again my apologies for not stating this earlier.

Ok, I've Uninstalled Daemon tools numerous times and tried inserting the Game disk and running the game, however the same problem happens.

At this point my only action was either clicking "Play Game" from the game menu or running the .exe shortcut from the desktop.

The cursor changes into a spinning disk icon and stays like this until the error message appears.

Also the CD drive spins up in an attempt to read the Game disk which does work as the computer is identifying the CD properly.(correct icon appears in "my comp").

*EDIT - I've never come across clonecd or clonedvd but as you said these will probably have the same effect. I don't understand why this issue would arise when no software of this type is present when the game is installed.

Did you have any problems installing the game or is it just when playing the game?

normally there is a key on the inside of the CD case which you need to activate the game online.

Edit: What CD/DVD drive do you have (is it a combo drive)?

The mere presence of any daemon tools or CD copying software may be enough to generate the error. I've even read that some people have problems with it due to Nero being installed.

Also as Maynard asked what type of CD or DVD drive are you using?

If you look at this SecuROM™ Support Information page it clearly states to use a local CD or DVD-ROM drive to generate the log. It also seems that is what you need to launch the game. ROM is not the same thing as a RW drive.

If you follow the instructions properly to create the log and use the correct kind of drive as stated in my link it says "The program will now generate an 'AnalysisLog.sr0' file within the root of your C:\ directory."

To find the file either do a search for the above file or go to My Computer and double click the C drive. It will not be in any sub folders.

The next step would be to send the log and/or contact them.

It does appear that SecuROM has a very aggressive policy and security controls so you either have to jump through the hoops, contact them to complain or try to get your money back.

I would try this reinstall Daemon Tools then I would download a program called Y.A.S.U this will clock the virtual drives used in Daemon Tools so the securom will not see them. I am guessing that the SPTD driver which is installed with Daemon Tools may be causing this. Y.A.S.U will need to be placed in Daemon Tools directory and run in there and left running

Disclaimer Y.A.S.U is not a crack or a bypass for a game it just hides the emulation Daemon Tools installs. Incidentally Daemon Tools has legal uses as a cd burner ect as well as being able to mount iso's which are obtainable legally from MSDN for example although there are a lot of other places. Securom only see's as a threat to itself it does not recognise its legitimate purposes

There was no errors when installing this game - as far as i'm aware there is only a CD Key provided that is used to validate the install and possibly to play online if i remember.

I Have a DVD RW drive (LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1S ATA DEVICE)

I will try and generate another log file and attempt to contact securom.

I'll also try Zingle's solution.

*Also on a side note - Securom says that there is a "Launch Analysis" option on the dialog menu when right clicking on the game icon. There is no such option unfortunetly.

Thanks again guys.

Hi

If all else fails you can try a normal, plain DVD ROM.

I had another game with Securom which required me to activate the game online.

I may have to do that Maynard,

just to update,

I managed to find that analysis log and send it to the securom tech.support so just waiting to see what they have to say.

Its weird because i cant see any entries in the registry relating to Daemon tools nor a driver file anywhere. Don't know why some software is a pain in the butt, as well as hard to fully remove.

sorry for double-post.

Ok so the situation is, i've been in touch with securom and THQ and they're recommended a few solutions:

1. Uninstall all virtual drive software (done)

2. Clean system boot + update game (done)

3. Update dvd drive firmare (done).

still the same problem.. I've even reinstalled the game for a third time in an effort to resolve this hehehe.

I noticed under MSCONFIG > startup than daemon tools was still listed along with Virtual cd (which was never used). I've since removed the related registry entries so they no-longer appear under the startup panel. I've also run numerous searched for any traces of either software but to no avail.

I will continue to speak with THQ regarding this. However if anyone has any ideas to resolve this i'd be more than happy to try anything

thanks,

BJD

From here: SecuROM

You are trying to start a copy-protected application which requires the original disc to be in the CD/DVD-ROM drive. Please check to make sure your disc is an original.

If this message occurs, although you are using the original disc, please check if the correct communication mode is being used with your drive. Please check if the DMA mode is enabled by using the Device Manager

  1. Open the Device Manager.
  2. Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels.
  3. Right-click the icon for the channel to which your CD/DVD drive is connected, select Properties, and then click the Advanced Settings tab.
  4. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select "DMA if Available" if the current setting is "PIO Only." If the drop-down box already shows "DMA if Available" but the current transfer mode is PIO, then you must toggle the settings. That is:
    • Change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and click OK.
    • Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to DMA if available.

In case the hint given above didn't solve your problem, please send a SecuROM™ analysis file to support@securom.com (see Support Info section on how to prepare and send an analysis file).
