I have XP on my main computer but am using my Toshiba laptop for the time being. I had TweakUI to get rid of the desktop icon shortcut arrows for XP, but how do you remove them in Vista (Home Premium)? I tried a program called FXVisor and it made the arrow boxes black, so I restored back. The next program wiped my calendar memory, so I have again restored. Is there a way which works?

Hi

Don't know if this will work but you can give it a try:

TweakVI will indeed do it for you. I use it myself.

Tweak VI was the second program I tried and in fact tried again just now. It completely wipes my very filled in Calendar Plus desk diary, so have had to restore again.

I really don't understand that.

TweakVi is just a really glorified regestry editor.

To use it to just remove the arrows would only affect that registry key and that one alone.

For it to affect anything else if that is all you used it for makes no sense.

For that matter it makes no sense at all on any aspect.

TweakVI is clean so you need to consider the other programs you tried.

For that matter consider ALL the other programs you mentioned or any others you might have installed.

On any Vista machine that does not have crap installed it will work just fine.

Like I said TweakVI just edits the registry and that part is no big deal. So if you think it or the other fixes you tried are causing problems elswhere then you need to consider the other programs and the fault with them

Exactly what are the other programs?

Did TweakVI remove the arrows?

I tried the FXVisor which replaced the arrows with black boxes! I looked in the registry for .lnk to remove the ISshortcut but the .lnk keys didn't have that listed. As for TweakVI, my IDEAL desk calendar loads first, so as soon as I saw it was blank then I panicked and didn't wait to see if I got rid of the arrows. I could try again....

Yes, that did work, although my Spyware Doctor listed the application as an infection but I have allowed it through permanently. Hope that is okay. The calendar came up blank again but I was able to restore it with the backup. Many thanks for your help.
