johnfloyd1147 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 DON'T LISTEN TO HP They told me all i could do is a system recovery, but i fixed it myself. You need the disk that came with vista for start up repairs. insert that disk and restart your computer. when the disk loads it will have a screen for selecting language and keyboard layout click next. the next screen will ask you to select your operating system do this and click next. the next screen will have a list of things you can do, select the command line one. when the black box shows up it should say something like: X:> you want to change the X:> to your drive that windows is installed on mine is c: so when you enter your drive letter it should look like this X:>C: and then press enter. it should now look like this C:> there are two things you need to do now 1.) type bootrec /fixboot it should say operation completed succesfully 2.) type bootrec /fixmbr it should say operation completed succesfully after you do this remove your cd and restart the computer it should boot right up! Mine did after 3 days of trying everything else, im just glad i didn't do a complete restore! to much important stuff in my pc to lose. HOPE THIS HELPS! Quote

Upon receiving the machine we had to make a set of "recovery disks" which to my knowledge are only good for a factory reset. Can you please clarify what "disk that came with vista" you are referring to? I have not found a solution to this problem anywhere. Thank you, Buck Quote
