wellies Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 (edited) Have you taken any photos of Scenery - Plants - Pets/animals - Various objects and want to show them? Here is the place. No need to start a new thread for each photo. Just add to this one. Photos must be taken by yourself and it's best to stick to the subjects mentioned. Issues such as copyright, what should and shouldn't be photographed (and published for all to see) should be considered. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a photo I took of a Lancaster Bomber flying at the Farnborough Airshow last year: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u78/Mart44/lacaster1.jpg Edited June 6, 2009 by wellies Quote Need help with your computer problems? wellies Posted June 4, 2009 Author Posted June 4, 2009 (edited) No problems so far of course :) but I think a mention should be made about file sizes. Below 200KB seems reasonable as an approximate guide. It should be possible to post photos of a good size within that limitation. If difficulty is found in keeping to that, then perhaps consider dropping the photo's physical size to 800 x 600 pixels. Smaller photos will generally be less in file size, provided they are optimised properly. Edited June 5, 2009 by wellies Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Plastic Nev Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Ok here are two photos of a rather unique situation in my home town of Blackburn and does quite often come up as a question in the old pub quizzes. The question being, "where in Blackburn is the road sandwiched between water". http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/plasticpig/MoreBlackburnandDarwen013.jpg The bridge carries the Leeds to Liverpool canal, however, the road, aptly named Aqueduct road, also crosses the river Darwen at the same place, and so is sandwiched between the canal and the river. In this shot you can see the river bed going up to and under the road. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/plasticpig/MoreBlackburnandDarwen014.jpg Quote Need help with your computer problems? Plastic Nev Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Still on the subject of bridges, this is known as Darwen Street Bridge, it is famous for the fact that the main girder stretching right across the road, is actually the longest unsupported plate girder in the UK or maybe even the world now. A plate girder is one made by riveting many plates together and was the only method available when the bridge was built, the process of long rolling the "Rolled Steel Joist" or RSJ hadn't yet been invented. The other girders in the bridge are in fact supported by pillars, just this front one isn't. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/plasticpig/IMGA0005.jpg Quote Need help with your computer problems? Plastic Nev Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Here is a view from the other side of the above bridge which incidentally carries the rail connections to both Preston or Bolton and on to Manchester. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/plasticpig/IMGA0012.jpg Quote Need help with your computer problems? Cobra Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 1st pic: The day before Hurricane Katrina arrived @ my house (~180 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico). 2nd pic: A few hours before the storm peaked, well after it's stength had subsided since moving inland. Winds were gusting to ~70mph, and they officially reached 90+ mph (in my area) later in the day. Notice the rain is dripping off the roof at an angle. Plastic Nev Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 I know this is for general photography, but this is about taking a picture and then using any one of the many photo handling programs to enhance the original scene. Here I have taken a nice shot of a good old duck, (yes I am a bit quackers I know!!!) First off I removed the shadow and the bits of debris, using the cloning tool using bits of the shot of the same shade but clean. Next I mirror imaged the duck and sat them side by side, a bit more manipulation of the shadow and finished with the last shot. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Plastic Nev Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Another day out in the good weather. I found my way in a round about sort of fashion, to the village of Dent in the Yorkshire Dales. It is a very old world sort of place with the main road through the middle still preserved as the original cobbled surface, using stone from the local river bed. Quite a common practice for rural roadways at one time. This first shot is of the main street at a junction, with the pub on the corner being one of those that brews its own beers. The second is a water fountain erected in the memory of Adam Sedgewick. He was one of the first in the field of geology, and was born in the village. The third shot is the main street or road bending off to the left past a recently refurbished building. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
