WinSock XP Fix Freeware download and review - fix XP internet connectivity from SnapFiles might be worth giving this a try?

If you do not fancy that press win key and r together type cmd and in the command box type "netsh winsock reset" without the quotes hit enter and then reboot pc

if still no good run this command "netsh winsock reset catalog" again without the quotes

zinglebarb is spot on with the fixes.

It's been a long time since I've seen this issue. I was used to seeing it as a result of malware infections. Malware often times corrupted the winsock.

I would try exactly as he said but you might also want to consider if you have infections. Hopefully the fixes will get you up and running for now.

Thanks zinglebarb.

download it to the machine you are on now and burn it to cd?

netsh int ip reset reset.log try this command if still no good we need to have a look into possible malware as Randy said. Have you had anything else strange happen?

You could try a system restore to before it happened?

To add to zingle

Type that at the command prompt by pressing [Windows Key]+[R] then type cmd and press enter.

If system restore doesnt work in normal mode try it in safe mode.

I outlined the command prompt in post 2 ;) thought it was similar enough to rest of my instructions for the OP to realise ;)

Malware is a program that has been installed for nefarious purposes by the code writer

Give system restore a go. Start/ Programs/ Accessories /System tools / System restore. Select a date prior to your connection issues
