Suiteheart Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 [i have a Sony VAIO laptop with Vista Home Premium.] My Vista wireless laptop, which has been connected to our BT Home Hub for several months has stopped working. It says the Hub is "Unidentified" and says that the access is Local Only. I phoned BT and they were no help whatsoever, telling me i had Spyware, (i took it to a local IT Consultant and he connected to his Hub no problem. He said the problem must be with the Hub and that it's not spyware) and the other BT number i phoned wanted to charge me, so no thankyou. I have reset the Hub, to no success, as well as trying to install the CD, although apparently the Key is wrong or something, even though the key is not wrong! Whenever i go to Diagnose the problem it tells me i either need to 'get new IP settings for the network adapter "Wireless Network Connection" ', or to plug a cable into the network adapter "Local Area Connection". Even when i plug the Ethernet cable into my laptop, it still refuses to let me on the Internet. When i go to Troubleshoot from Windows Live Messenger it tells me either my gateway appears to be offline or something to do with my IP address. Sorry for the vast amount of information, but i'm desperate to get my laptop back online. Thanks in advance. Quote

Jelly Bean Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Hello and welcome. In the Vista machine could you do the following: Click start/all programs/accessories/now right click on command prompt and choose run as admin/Now copy and paste in ipconfig /all and hit enter on your keyboard. That is ipconfig "space" /all Could you copy and paste the whole report from the command window back here into your thread. It maybe you have to manualy asign a IP adress I am not sure yet. You could also try these commands and see if they help: ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew ipconfig /registerdns Remember there is a space between ipconfig and the / and hit enter on your keyboard after every command.
