dreadprinz Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 (edited) I have a HP Pavilion DV9000 Lap Top that has a booting problem. When I press power, the lights on the key board comes on for a few seconds then flashes off and on multiple times until I turn off the power. Other times while booting it will going throw files and will stop on !! Oxcolaold!! 28492/92571 (Registry\Machine\Components\Derived Data-). Also some times the lap top will try to fix the booting problem but with no prevail. I tried using the System Startup Repair, System Restore and Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool which found no problem with the memory. I even tried using the XP CD and the Startup Repair say "Windows Cannot repair this computer automatically". What else can I try to solve this problem? Edited June 6, 2009 by dreadprinz Quote

Do you know what service pack you have installed or were you installing a SP? It looks possibly you need to reinstall Vista. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Tootech Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Hi, I'm wondering if your laptop is one of a batch of DV9000 series that have more serious faults, due to the various problems you describe. Have a look at the link below and, it describes a warranty enhancement for some models due to design faults. HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement (Product Numbers Included)* Quote

Hi, I was installing Service Pack 2, but the lap top had booting problems before I tried installing the service pack. Just that the problems got worst after the lap top tried to reboot to finish the installation of the service pack. Thats when the code came up on the screen. My question is, if I reinstall Vista will I lose all my files? Edited June 8, 2009 by dreadprinz Quote
Jelly Bean Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 No your files will be intact. The way to do this only is to use the reinstall disk if you have one. If you use recovery console then all will be lost. You use the install disk and do NOT delete the partition just go ahead and install. Then once up and running open C drive and you will see located "windows.old" this contains all your files. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................

But on the Which type of installation do you want page, Upgrade option is disabled. It is saying Upgrade has be disabled. What can do to enable the Upgrade Option. Quote
RandyL Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I'm confused here. I even tried using the XP CD. Your profile says you have XP. You posted in the Vista section. What version of Windows did you have when you bought it as you seem to be using an XP installation disk and are trying to do a Vista upgrade installation. I'm just wondering if you need to reinstall XP then need to run a Vista upgrade disk. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. I have two computers, a desk top which runs XP and a lap top that has Vista. My profile says XP because I am more familiar with XP but my lap top which has the booting problem runs Vista. I am trying to reinstall Vista on the lap (which came with Vista). But on the Which type of installation do you want page, Upgrade option is disabled. It is saying Upgrade has been disabled. Jelly Bean Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 If Vista is already installed on the laptop just choose install and do NOT delete the partition just install. Upgrade is used within windows. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................

Upgrade is used within windows. Thanks for your help. I reinstalled Vista and all my files are there. But I am still having booting problem. Most times when I press power I also have to press F1 for the computer to boot. Twice it stopped during booting on a screen with blue lines. After boot up the laptop will work great, except for the wireless card, it just doesn’t work. I remove the wireless card and I also checked the memory chips to make sure they where not loss and still no improvement. Do you have any other ideas? Edited June 15, 2009 by dreadprinz Quote
Tootech Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Have a look back at the link I gave you in Post No 3. Complete or partial wireless failure is another symptom of a failing DV9000. Add these problems But I am still having booting problem. Most times when I press power I also have to press F1 for the computer to boot. Twice it stopped during booting on a screen with blue lines. Also, have a look at these links HP dv9000 wireless not working Forums - Recurring failure in HP DV9000 laptop - PC Advisor Hp admits wireless laptop problems - The Inquirer HP Pavillian dv9000 (and others) Overheating Damage/ Motherboard Failure - WORLD Law Direct Forums Its a common fault and in some cases a BIOS update wlll fix it, but in alot of cases it won't - it is a design fault. Can you post the exact model number eg DV9010ea, and the product number eg RE372EA, and tell us if it is an Intel or AMD model. Thanks. Quote

Thanks for the information. The model/series number DV9420US and the product number GA354UA#ABA. Also it is a AMD model. Quote
Tootech Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 (edited) The AMD models run hotter than the Intel ones, and you may find that if you were to look closely at the lid/hinge assembly inside they are beginning to fail too - its even more common than the other faults. Ok, your model does indeed come under the HP Service Warranty, to quote Go to this link, which shows your model number HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement (Product Numbers Included)* Then to here HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement* Confirm the problems you are having and contact HP. Thanks to all that helped me. I used the links and I confirm that the laptop is having the same problems stated on the HP web site. So I call HP and indeed I fall under the Service Warranty. They told me that I should receive a box in the mail in two to three business days so I can send it in for repairs. All repairs should take about 10 to 14 business days. My question is, has HP solved the problems with these laptop or are they just replacing bad motherboards with new faulty boards? Edited June 20, 2009 by dreadprinz Quote
