janeamberwood Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Hi I'm quite a novice really with internet etc. I have recently set up a blog page (hosted by Wordpress) and have managed to put in a couple of links to other sites ie You Tube (don't ask me how!). The reason for this blog is that a friend of mine is kayaking around the coast of Britain to raise money for charity (he's doing really well as well). What I would really like to add, is a link to a map of Britain, so that each day I can 'draw' where he is so that anyone looking at the blog can actually see his progress. Can this be done can anyone tell me please? Thanks Jane:confused: Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Well I'm not up on Blogs to be honest but I'll guarantee some one round here will be. What's the address of your blog Jane so we can have a look. Quote

RandyL Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Is there any chance one of the widgets can give you what you need? Perhaps the Platial MapKit Widget Sorry but I don't use the site but they do have a support section. Quote We are all members helping other members. janeamberwood Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 Help for me Thank everyone for your replies. What I need is a) where can I get a map, I know I could scan one or something, but how then can I draw a line on it to show where he is etc. Once I have that, I need to be able to link it to my blog page, so that everyone can click and see the updated version, so its not really just a picture I need to upload. As I say I am very new to this sort of thing so I don't know whats available and whats not! Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Well you could perhaps scan the original image with a line showing Start to where he is now and upload that. Then in say a weeks time remove that image and upload a new one with updated progress. Quote
janeamberwood Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 You are wonderful :p Have just downloaded a map from OS site, thanks so much. Now I need to know how to save it in the correct format etc, and then how can I link it to my blog Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 This may be the best one. http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/images/userImages/misc/outlinemaps/outlineb.gif Quote
janeamberwood Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 Fab Oh yes, this is just the map I need a million thanks. Can you help me with how I save it? Then I need a link to my blog. Once I've saved it in the right place, how do I add a hyperlink to it? Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Save it as a GIF file on your computer then upload it to Photo Bucket, you will need an account which is free and then drop the image file into the blog from there. You could open the file in say Paint and add a line on a continuing basis etc. Quote
janeamberwood Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 Yes will do, thanks again. Will let you know how I get on. Jane Quote
zinglebarb Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 (edited) That image is huge you may need to shrink it to make it usable. janeamberwood Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 Hi, this map looks great. You're right the one I downloaded is huge. Can I use the one you have sent? If so how. I have tried to draw a line on it in paint, and yes I can draw the line, but no way can I change colour. I click on the colour but it still just draws in dark gray. Where do you suggest I save it so that I can just draw another line on each day or whenever. I know its probably me (well definately) but I can't believe how difficult I am finding this?? Quote
janeamberwood Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 Hi have copied it into my pictures, thanks. Not sure what to open it in now to draw my line bearing in mind I need to put a link in my blog to get to it once I have the document that I keep updating. Do you have any suggestions, thanks I know I'm a pest Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 You need to change the pen colour Jane. Here's a rough example. Quote

janeamberwood Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 To everyone who helped me Hi sorry, I'm probably doing this wrong, but I wanted to thank everyone who sent me replies to help me put a map that I can edit on a blog page. Thanks to you all, I have managed to do it, nothing too sophisticated, but it does the job. One suggetion was save to photobucket, and then link to blog. I couldn't use photobucket, could be me or maybe not compatible with Wordpress. Anyway, I noticed a widget on wordpress for flicker, so I put it on there, update it and then copy back. So please have a look and see what you think. http://ericscoastalkayak.wordpress.com/ Thanks so much. Jane:) Quote
