I have an E5200 CPU, its running a standard Intel cooler at 3.19 GHz, and I left the volts set at Auto.

Runs fine, no BSOD's.

I had another until recently running on a cheap £35 MSI board, that ran the same overclock, Auto volts no problem.

I'd leave it as Auto unless you are getting much past 3GHz, and then you may have to up it a little.

ok thanks for the info i think ill leave it on auto then seems to be ok at the moment.

can you tell me wat you run the bus at and multiplier thanks steve..

There is not an answer to this. Overclocking is never cut and dry.

Is the ram overclocked. The ram tends to be the first to fall over. Are you on stockcooling? what I would do is slacken the ram timings first and test with something like Prime95. If it still falls over I would tweak the vcore a notch or 2 and I would set the Vdimm to its operational maximum. Also have a look at what other voltages your bios allows you to tweak one often forgotten when overclocking is the northbridge

ok zinglebarb ill have a look at things see wat i can change never thought about northbridge.thanks for all the info going to go and have a look at bios now thanks again steve.

this is cpuz reading now

core voltage---1.120v

core speed--1440.1mhz

multiplier--x6.0

bus speed--240.0mhz

rated fsb--960.1

when i go into windows it says 3.0.ghz

thanks steve..

It looks like your CPU is well underclocked at the moment.

Standard multiplier is 12.5, FSB 200, change your CPU back to those settings, or Auto and have a look at what Windows reports.

Posted

thanks for info now changed it in bios to 12x

and fsb at 250.

in windows now says 3.19ghz

in cpuz must of got it wrong fsb changes between x12.5 and x6.0

this is dual core cpu ....thanks steve

Thats Speedstep kicking in. CHeck your temps and if they aint high turn it off. (in bios)

Checked your manual speedstep is down as CPU EIST

CPU Thermal Monitor 2 also might need swtiching off

Disclaimer only do this if you are sure your overclock isnt creating to much heat

is that die temp? you want to measure that under load . The die temp is ok upto around 70 (under full load)thats the die actual core you should get a reading for each of these. The freezer 7 pro should be fine :)

The only way test an overclock is to load it.

OCCT Website english this is a very harsh tesh if it lasts a good spell on this then you should be ok

Another tip as long as you know what it should be is to manually set up your ram. SPD often gets ram wrong and if you have performance ram chances are is wrong

Beware mate overclocking can become addictive ive had my play with it and had good results but now I just run my system @ stock speeds as its good enough

I have an e5300 in one of my computers. I always run Speedstep and auto everything (regardless of the board/CPU) once I do all the manual experimentation and playing around. In this case, 3.67GHz @ 1336FSB is fine for my use. I use the factory cooler which came with a q6700.

RAM is a slightly different story. This computer has 2GB Corasir XMS2 @ 1100MHz & 5-5-5-15, nothing fancy there. Prime95 will run for as long as I care to test with it. CPU temps top out @ 59C under 100% load.

FWiW, I made a mistake in the last post (got my 'puters mixed up.). The RAM is 4GB of G.Skill '1066' @ 1069MHz & 5-5-5-15 timings. Like I said, nothing fancy.

is that coretemps or sensor? run prime alongside cpuz and see if speedstep actualls kicks in.

I run a D805 @ what I thought was 4 gig but speedstep was running it down a hell of a lot lower. I do not knwo the crystal program so I am unsure of its accuracy :)

hi thanks for the info mate this has helped me a lot [THANKS TO ALL] who have comented.

i am now running at 3.19ghz and seems fine for now.

just these ram speeds dont understand much about these.

i think in bios ram speed reading is 667 and 800 sounds un balanced to me ....thanks in advance steve

p.s. i will get back to you with proper readings on ram thanks again .steve.

Those are all good questions and ideas because I asked/tried them a couple of years ago when deciding to try this O/C thing. BTW, I'm sure of CrystalCPUID's qualifications. SpeedStep is definitely working. I use various programs to monitor temps & CPU speed/multiplier application, including but not limited to: Core Temp, Right Mark CPU Clock Utility, PC Wizard 2008, CPU-Z, etc.

I found this some time ago and found it worth adding to my references:

I see a few settings I run differently with my Gigabyte boards. The one that stood out the most is your choice of "Turbo" under Performance Enhance instead of "Standard". The problem here is that you're asking BIOS to overclock your manual overclock when system demands increase. This will limit your ultimate CPU speed (max O/C), and cause problems such as spontaneous reboots.
