caskin Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I am being constantly prompted by various programmers to download Adobe player active 10. According to my control panel it is already installed although does not have any KB volume content attributed to it? prior to reinstalling Flashplayer 10: Adobe advise installing Adobe install exe,and then uninstall any version of flashplayer 10,but not even Adobe flashplayer uninstall will install. The install programmer begins but freezes. I have ensured that all other applications which may be using flashplayer are disabled. Now do not know where to turn ,so some expert advice would be appreciated:confused: Quote :pDont try to weather the storm, learn to dance in the rain instead!
RandyL Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Hi Caskin; There is a wealth of informatiom on Flash Player Help and Support. It's hard to say what exaxctly your issue is but I notice they have an Alert at the moment that seems to pertain to your issue. There are a lot of steps to take depending on what the issue is in your particular case so follow them carefully to the letter. Quote We are all members helping other members. caskin Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 Hi Caskin; There is a wealth of information on Flash Player Help and Support. It's hard to say what exactly your issue is but I notice they have an Alert at the moment that seems to pertain to your issue. There are a lot of steps to take depending on what the issue is in your particular case so follow them carefully to the letter. Again thanks for reply.I have indeed attempted to carry out every action that Adobe suggests. Thier main suggestion was to UNinstall all and any Flash player and to this extent provided a Flash player uninstall programme. I downloaded the uninstall programme as advised but upon opening it to install ,it froze at 80%...there doesnt appear to be any advice as to this problem? Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Besides uninstalling it from Add/Remove Caskin have a look in Program Files for any remaining folders and then do a final search for any other remnants of Adobe and delete those too. Quote
RandyL Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 It is possible that a program is running that depends on flash. I've never tried this with the flash uninstaller but see if it will uninstall in safemode. If it does reboot and go offline before running the installer. That was good thinking, but didn't work as system stated Windows installer not available in Safe mode?? Have deleted all references to adobe except for adobe acrobat? Adobe support lock out all support questions regarding flash player even though I have a registered account with them?? Adobe unstaller programme did downloabut when run stalled at 80% If we can crack this I would apprecaite it Thanks Quote :pDont try to weather the storm, learn to dance in the rain instead!
RandyL Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 That quote by me is wrong. If you look at my post I suggested to try running the uninstaller in safemode. We have to get rid of flash in order to install flash. Only the uninstaller can do this easily. Try running the uninstaller in safemode and hope for the best. No that was fine,I did try both modes,Adobe uninstallerer install, plus removal at control panel, but neither worked. The only message I received as as stated, "Win Installer will not work in safe mode." So I assume that Windows installer would not install Adobe uninstaller in safe mode??? But i agree we need to get rid of all traces of present indicated Adobe active 10 on my pC.....it only appears iin control panel without any KB volume,it does not appear in any folders? RandyL Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Download the following programs and save them. Print these instructions as well as any documentation you may need. Once the programs are downloaded I don't want you to connect to the internet until all the steps are finished. 1. Download SubInACL from Microsoft to fix permission issues that prevent the Flash Player installation. 2. Download the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller. 3. Download and unzip Install_Flash_Player_10_ActiveX.zip. from this page. 4. Check your Internet Explorer ActiveX settings. 5. Type msconfig in the Run box and click OK. In the Startup tab untick everything you don't need. Click Apply. Click OK. Reboot. 6. Delete all temporary internet files. 7. Make sure you don't have anything open and running by looking at the items in the system tray. This includes any windows, Instant messenger clients etc. Expand the system tray to be sure you don't miss any items. 8. Go to C:>Windows>Downloaded Program Files. Remove any Flashplayer ActiveX controls. 9. Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus. 10. Disconnect from the internet and make sure you do not automatically connect at startup. 11. Run the uninstaller you downloaded in step 2 and reboot. 12. Run the installer you downloaded in step 3 and reboot. Quote We are all members helping other members. RandyL Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 As a rule in XP and Vista needed startup items are run from services instead of the startup tab. I'm trying to eliminate any possible items from running is all. So disable as much as you can without disabling anything you are not sure about. As you know Flash can be problematic so I'm throwing the whole ball of wax at you. Various combinations of the above steps have always alllowed me to overcome Flash uninstall or reinstall problems on many comps. Hopefully this will work. caskin Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 Hi Randy Have carried out all your points to the letter,no joy!! The "SubinAClL installed without a hitch.....Downloads all went smoothly. Active x settings set to prompt ...(incidentally can I re-alter them now as I am getting prompts all the time??) Start up wheedled right down temp files deleted. all programmes shut down. Could find no files at all relating to Flashplayer Firewalls disabled internet disconnected. BIG PROBLEM: as before Adobe uninstaller at install froze at 80%??????? And that appears to be the crux of the matter getting uninstaller to install? Quote :pDont try to weather the storm, learn to dance in the rain instead!
RandyL Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I'm at a loss here caskin. Hopefully someone else will have an idea. In the mean time return your settings. Tootech Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I'm grasping at straws here, but nothing else is working so lets give it a go. BIG PROBLEM: as before Adobe uninstaller at install froze at 80%??????? Try that again, and after it freezes have a look in the Event Log under the Software column. Thats Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Log Are there any entries relating to the frozen uninstaller? If there are, post them please. Next, it's worth using Revo uninstaller to attempt removal of Flash Player. Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs, Solve uninstall problems Install it. Run it and go to the uninstaller, choose the Flash icon, then OK it, choose Advanced and follow it through. Restart. Did it remove Flash Player? At this point I'd be tempted to use CCleaner to clean any remnants from the registry. Its not something I'd recommend for 'any old problem', this one demands a bit more tinkering. Run CCleaner. Click on Registry and Scan For Issues. When its finished, click Fix Selected Issues. When it asks you if you want to back up the registry entries - click Yes, choose the location, and save the file. Don't skip that step. When finished reboot. If all of that goes to plan you should have system free of Flash Player. Have another go at installing it now. Quote
caskin Posted June 16, 2009 Author Posted June 16, 2009 Log attached.......carried out your instructions and fab it worked Flash player 10 gone!!!!! Cannot thank you enough.....but having said that attempted reinstall of Flashplayer 10 will NOT install,it freezes at 25%???? Log Text: Name Type Description Size Application Log Application Error Records 512.0 KB Security Log Security Audit Records 64.0 KB System Log System Error Records 512.0 KB Internet Explorer Log Custom Log Error Records -- Media Center Log Custom Log Error Records 64.0 KB Microsoft Office Diagnostics Log Custom Log Error Records 64.0 KB Microsoft Office Sessions Log Custom Log Error Records 640.0 KB May I ask for more advice??? Tootech Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 That IS good news. When you ran a reinstall, was Internet Explorer closed? Its best that way I think. Again is there anything after the freeze in the Event Log Software section that may point to an error on install? Disable your internet security software and try again. BTW - what security products do you use? Try a full Internet Explorer Reset, take note that passwords will be deleted. Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Reset Then have another go. I'm wondering if we should do a run of HiJackThis to check for old entries, but will wait for info from you. Quote
caskin Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 Carried out all instructions, install still froze log attached. Shut down all programmes ,downloaded Zipfile for flashplayer from this page. Closed down internet and all security devices (Zone Alarm security suite) unzipped flashplayer files and attemptedinstall. Three attempts install froze at same place each time??log2.txt Quote :pDont try to weather the storm, learn to dance in the rain instead!
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Caskin that text file is exactly the same as in Post 16. Quote
Tootech Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 (edited) Caskin, have a look at this picture - its the Event Viewer. Have a look in yours, and click on Application - I've circled it in red. Then look in the column to the right where all if the entries are. Each line is an event on your computer. Some show as errors, they will have a red circle next to them and say Error. When you attempt Flash install and it freezes, there may be an Error event written to the log - thats the information we would like to see. If you can find it, double click to open it and there will be a few lines of test describing the error. Post that text here please. Edited September 27, 2009 by Tootech Quote

Tootech Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Caskin, there are two main things we want you to do, if they don't work we think you would be better off doing a full backup and reinstall. First run a full malware scan as described below. You have to disable your antivirus to do it, on this occasion can you remove your Zonealarm suite to count it out of the problems. Once you have made sure your system is clean, install Avast or Avira until we have it sorted, then go back to Zonealarm. Next, do you have an XP CD for your system? If so, put it in the drive, next click Start, Run, cmd In the box type sfc /scannow and press Enter When complete reboot and then go to Windows Update and install all available updates. Have another go with Flash Player. Malware RemovalPlease disable your resident security applications (such as AVG, Spybot, WinPatrol, etc.) before performing the below procedure so that they do not interfere with the process. Perform all the steps in the order listed to avoid any conflicts. If unsure, please stop and voice your doubts. You might be required to go offline during the disinfection process. Therefore, it is recommended to print off the instructions below for ease of reference. If you stick to the above guidelines, all should go smoothly. ================================================ STEP 1 Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune. Save the file to your Desktop. caskin Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 Well guys I have tried evrything suggested but adobe flashplayer 10 refuses to install. What beats me is why does Adobe produce software so difficult to instal??? as a quick scan of the net soon reveals that many users are having similar problems????Attempting to contactAdobe support is virtually impossible. I do not appear to be missing out as all programmes are runing as before with all pages displayed.I really do not wish to do a full back and instal,as having done a few in the past its a very time consuming business and can be very fraught,so I think I will leave things as they are, Thanks for all your assistance and help,it has been greatly appreciated.
