Chilly Breeze Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 In response to my previous post... Disregarding utorrent, Sky Player uses P2P technology and so does World of Warcraft for it's patching process (but not actually playing) so does that mean no one will give me any help regarding them?
Jelly Bean Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Chilly I answered your question. Tiscali - Fair usage policy It is not your issue caused by your computer. It is Tisaclies fair usage policy. We cannot force them to give you privilaged better speeds you all come under there fair usage policy. When we refer to P2P we associate this with such programs as uTorrent and Limewire and programs of s similar nature. If you spread your downloading over a period of time and do not spend so much time online games then your speed would be fine. This is not a fix for any Tech to help with but a Tiscali fair usage policy. You can ring them and have them explain it to you in better detail, upgrade your speed or move to a diffrent ISP. mat777 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 sky broadband doesnt have a fiar use policy at all and is proud of it. also, my bt internet (just internet, noto total phone etc.) gives me 8 meg broadband for a very cheap price, and i've never had a speed problem or fair use warning despite playing call of duty on ps3 most days for hours at a time and downloading loads of music and game updates/demos so theres 2 providers you could switch to, just dont stay with tiscali as i know at least 3 poeple who've been driven nuts by their tiscali internet - it isnt very good at all. and i agree with you that it wasnt very fair your last post was closed - they could at least have given you the chance to remove the offending item Phantom Phixer Old Phantoms never die, they just get spookier....
Chilly Breeze Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 Ah, I misunderstood that post, sorry. That's what Tiscali told me when I contacted them but wouldn't them capping my badwidth due to this fair usage policy just slow my connection down all round, rather than simply stopping me from connecting to certain programs? To clarify, I have checked my connection speeds both when I can connect and when I can't and there is no difference and I also have no trouble viewing web pages or have trouble downloading files by other means (e.g. downloading direct from a file hosting site as opposed to something like Sky Player). And that was going to be my next question about ISP's, mat, thanks. I was thinking of going with BT broadband so it's good to know there's hope...
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 We are not going to debate this issue any longer. With regard to SKY and it's fair usage policy look here. Sky.com - Sky Products>Broadband>Terms and Conditions>Usage Policies The thread is closed and any further correspondence with regard to this issue will result in action being taken.
Jelly Bean Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Hey Chilly the speed maybe so slow that it disconnects you. I will give you an example: Mat you can read this also as your post is slightly incorrect: Sky.com - Sky Products>Broadband>Terms and Conditions>Usage Policies Now I am on the Sky 16 meg plan and there is supposed to be no capping, wrong. I also only receive around 8 meg speed, terrible I know. But nothing I can do about that. Chilly if Tiscali runs its braodband like Sky then you WILL be disconnected. Once I have been on the internet with Sky for a certain amount of time I get disconnected every few minutes some times or around every half an hour. This is realy annoying. Now going with any ISP these days means you do not get the speed they advertise you get "upto" speed. So due to this "Upto" you may pay for lets say 10 meg speed but you may only be lucky to get 5-6 meg.Yup due to the "Upto" clause. The best thing to do Chilly is to ask people in your area who have diffrent ISP what there actual speed is and what they are paying for, compare the diffrences.Ask family and friends. Once my contract is up with Sky I am off back to Virginmedia. I paid for 10 meg braodband and I got just under 10,very good steady speeds although they also cap your downloads. BT does your internet through the phone line not cable so remember there download/upload speeds will not be great at all. Chiily your thread was locked due to the issue of P2P uTorrent software. But I did answer your questions before I closed it.Rules are rules I am afraid but if you need any other help please feel free to ask. Thankyou for your understanding. JB.
