paulsif Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Hello im in the process of leaving sky bb and thinking of going with bt, the reason being i brought a D-Link DIR 825 router but sky will only let me use their own router . So basiclly i've got a nice shiny D-Link router that i wont be able to use without a DSL modem. I have my Sagem sky router and also a Netgear DG834PN router that I could use as a modem if possible? if this could be done I would be very grateful if someone could help me. Many thanks. Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 You might find that BT will want you to use their gear too but I'll leave this open for opinions. Quote
paulsif Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 Ive spoken to BT and they say as long as I don't want to use BT Vision I'll be ok using my own epuipment Quote
zinglebarb Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 (edited) turn dhcp off on the second router. Assign a different ip range so it does not clash with first router and assign the second router a static address outside of both ranges . Connect the 2 routers together with crossover network cable if neither has an uplink port as part of the lan if one of the routers does have an uplink then use a patch(straight) network cable and ensure one end is plugged into uplink and the other into lan :) I run a cable modem plugged into a 4 port cable router plugged into a 4 port wireless router and use the wireless router as an access point Sky will give you access to the modem router if you hassle them. Turn wireless off on this router and leave the rest set as default then follow instructions I gave for second router and it should work Edited June 10, 2009 by zinglebarb Quote Q9550 P5Q pro mobo 4 gig pc8500 ATI 4870 Scythe CPU cooler Vista X64 5 HDDs 3 optical OCZ modular psu
danzil Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 i doubt you will be able to use the sky router at all. it has modified firmware that hard codes your username and password into them....the only way around this is to change firmware and that can be tricky at best with the sky router. i thought the Netgear DG834PN had all the functions you would need..just add your BT username and password into it, and oila that should be it... unless im missing the point,,,,(heyt it happens to me a lot) regards danzil:) Quote Windows 10 Pro x64Aqua Jeantech Gaming case550watt psu.MSI Gaming Board32GB DDR3 Corsair gaming RamGenuine Intel i7 3.2Ghz4 x 24x dvdrw 150GB SSD750GB Hybrid Drive256 RAID PCI/E SSD for OSand loads of other bits i really dont need :D
