Hi all,

Can anyone help, im having trouble with my internet. The tool bar has disappeared i.e file edit etc. Also my pc will not allow me to access my ''internet options'' within the control panel, i have tried restoring my pc but this has not worked, i use sky as my internet provider and i have tried uninstalling/reinstalling sky but still nothing, this is now driving me crazy as it is stopping me opening links and having more than one tab open at a time?

Thanx Em

Much appreciated Emz

Hi

Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

First thing, in Internet Explorer right-click on the top in a grey area and make sure Menu Bar has a tick by it, i am sure this is not the only problem there is.

Are you using IE7 or 8?

Or is this a different browser?

Ok I can sugest you uninstall IE7 then reinstall via add and remove I am not sure if it will work but it may.

But first lets try click start/right click on the IE icon and choose properties set your security and privacy to medium to low.

Close and reopen any IE pages see if that helps.

Ema let me rule out any sort of malware before we move on further.

Could you copy and paste the results back into your thread for me please,if you need to make two seprate posts that is fine.

Download and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

  • Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and install the program
  • At the end, make sure a checkmark is placed next to:
    o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    o Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Click Finish
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Include this log in your next reply

Note:

If you for some reason lose the log, it can be retrieved manually from this location:

C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

===========

Please download the latest version of HijackThis from Trend Micro and save it to your desktop.

  • Download HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install HijackThis.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Include this log in your next reply.

Notes:

Do not use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.

Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless, or required for your computer to run like it should.

Ema once in safe mode with networking then are you able to download HJT and Malwarebytes?

Or are you able to download them on another computer and transfer using a disk/floppy or USB pen drive to the probelm PC?

Does IE appear more normal and funtional in safe mode?

Can we go back a step, to attempt to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 in Safe Mode.

You will be able to reinstall it again at a later date, either by downloading it or running Windows Update, so no worries there.

Open Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs.

Click the box marked Show Updates.

Look for any toolbars, eg Google or Yahoo and uninstall those first.

Scroll down and you will see Internet Explorer 7, and also below that a list of updates for IE7.

The updates need removing in reverse order, so the most recent first.

Uninstall each one, clicking the box Do Not Restart at the end of each uninstall (if needed)- you'll see what I mean.

Note - this is only Internet Explorer 7 updates.

When they are done, unsintall Internet Explorer 7.

Restart.

Can you also tell us if you connect to the Internet using a USB modem or a router, and if you are connected with a cable or wirelesly
