Jelly Bean Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Hello and welcome to the forum. Could you give us the exact make and model number of both CPUs please. I belive your mainboard is:P4M9007MB-8EKRS2H Foxconn - Products: Motherboard This mainboard appears discontinued and at the moment I get the compatable CPU is a 1.6 GHZ not higher as you purchased. But I am looking into this. Did you buy the CPU brand new? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
daz uk Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 the p4 says on the chip itself INTEL 04,PENTIUM 4,3.20 GHZ/1M/800/04A,SL7PW CHINA,5536A986 and my other cpu is intel pentium dual core e2140 1.6 ghz unsure of model number Quote
Jelly Bean Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 You possibly need a BIOS update. Are you able to enter BIOS at all? At what point does the PC shut down?Does it register the CPU? Double check all internal connections. Are all your fans spinning and does the CPU fan spin? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
zinglebarb Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 (edited) This is not an upgrade . The older p4 will possibly be a D model . Your new dual core cpu although clocked lower is a better cpu imo. If you want to upgrade your cpu then buy a E7400 or better still a Q6 series. Edit the E8 series cpus use and FSB of 1333 this board can only take upto 1066 cpus so I put the E7400 as this is 1066 Edited June 10, 2009 by zinglebarb Quote Q9550 P5Q pro mobo 4 gig pc8500 ATI 4870 Scythe CPU cooler Vista X64 5 HDDs 3 optical OCZ modular psu
