geo940 Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 program that caused crash Hi Nev Thanks for the call you will have to perceiver with me as I am a bit out of my depth with using forums. The program that I downloaded was called UNIBLUE SPEED UP MY PC2009. So now I cannot get passed the blue screen to even try and open up any programs to do the tasks that it requires. Regards - George Quote
Tootech Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Start your PC, and just after the boot screen writing dissapears press F8 - you may need to tap it a few times. That will get you to Advanced Startup Options. Select Last Known Good Configuration and press Enter. Your computer will restart, hopefully properly. Then uninstall Uniblue - you don't need it. If that doesn't work, use F8 again, and this time select Safe Mode. Select your account, logon and press No to the prompt. System Restore will start and you can restore your computer to a time prior to Uniblue being installed on your computer. Let us know how you get on. Quote

Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Ok George Do you have your XP disk to hand and we can try to repair the system? Quote
geo940 Posted June 16, 2009 Author Posted June 16, 2009 disks Hi Nev My system is OEM so I have my recovery disks if that will help the situation. George Quote
maynardvdm Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Start the computer with the recovery disk in the drive, you may have to set first boot device to CD\DVD ROM in the BIOS. On startup you should see something like Press any key to boot from Cd.... then press Enter See if there is any options to repair the computer. Warning: Do NOT choose factory defaults you will loose all your information if you do. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. RandyL Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Yes geo you are on track. Look at the Repair a Damaged Installation section on How to use the Microsoft® Windows® XP RM Recovery CD for re-installation or repair from RM. Quote We are all members helping other members. geo940 Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 Hi Next step I did was to agree with all the licence laws and pressed enter and the following screen came up ''The following list shows the existing partitions on this computer. It had 3 options 1 to set up windows as the selected item press enter 2 to create a partition in the unpartitioned space press 'c' 3 to delete the selected partition press 'd' I pressed enter and it stated that the partition was too full, damaged or not formatted and to continue installing windows i must format but would destroy any files on the disk. Up to now I have not been able to find anything on the disk connected with repairing the installation am I still going in the right direction as I have said have only one OEM recovery disk Cheers - George Quote

geo940 Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 Hi pressed f8 to agree to the licence agreement and it immediately jumped to the first part showing steps 1,2 and 3. pressed 'r' but nothing happened. So I am back to the partitioning mode with install.delete or quit. George Quote
Plastic Nev Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Hi George, Lets start again, first question is, is the BIOS configured to boot from the CD? I guess it must be as you have got that far already. Next, It is very important to do everything in the correct order, so I have copied the repair procedure for you. Please follow it step by step and try not to miss anything or make a mistake. If you do just stop everything and go back to the beginning again after a reboot from the disk. All of this comes from the link that RandyL provided earlier, I just copied the relevant part. Repair a Damaged Installation Please note: If you make a mistake when following the steps below, you will not be offered the option to repair a damaged installation. Follow these steps precisely (or reboot from the CD and start again). Boot from the Recovery CD (press any key when prompted). Choose Setup (press <Enter>) - do not choose the R=Recovery Console option. Press F8 to agree to the license agreement. Press R to Repair the selected Windows XP installation. The setup program will copy files to your hard disk and reboot automatically. Do not press any key when the CD boot code is run, allow the code to timeout, the system will boot from the hard disk and continue with the installation from the CD. Answer the configuration questions once the computer has finished re-installing. You will be prompted for your Product Key which you will find at the back of your system. You will also need to Activate your system within 30 days, if you have not done so previously (see below). Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 In post 15 George did you actually see this screen or not? Repair Windows XP - Select the Windows XP Installation to Repair This is immediately after the Licensing screen. Quote
geo940 Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 No when I got to the licence screen with all the divisions and subdivisions of the licence I pressed enter and the next screen was the one for partitioning. Even when I pressed f8 while in the licence screen it still showed the same screen for partitioning. Have never yet seen a screen with repair on it except for the recovery console option. Will run thru the whole sequence again using the advice in post 16 and see what happens. Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Ok what exactly does it say on the disk that you have? Quote
geo940 Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 Right reading from the disk title - operating system - recovery cd/dvd info - this cd/dvd allows you to restore the operating system on your fujitsu seimens computer system. Warning all data, applications and settings will be deleted. For the recovery you will also need the ''drivers and utilities or serverstart cd/dvd which I have. For microsoft windows xp home edition SP2 gEORGE Quote
geo940 Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 Hi When't thru the sequence as printed out quite a few times and still got the same screens, either there is something I am doing wrong or my disk is as it says on the label just for restoring my system and not for repairing as well Thanks for all the help I have learned a great deal from all the advice I have been given and will keep trying what I have been tought if there is any more suggestions please let me know . If he worst comes I will have reinstall my system and it will teach me to back up my files more often. Hope that was the correct information that was required off my disk, back to the drawing board Regards - George Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Well unless others have further ideas and after reading this small line here, OEM Restore disks or hidden restore folders on the hard drive will not work for the Repair Install. How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install it may be that the only course of action open is do do a new install George. If you have items that you wish to save then you can hook the hard drive to another machine to retrieve your stuff but if your not bothered then go ahead and re-install XP. If you need help on any aspect just let us know. Quote
geo940 Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 Thanks for the info if I follow the steps you have shown me and reformat the hard disk and then reinstall the operating system followed by the drivers and utilities. When all that is done go to the windows update section and download any safety patches that I need. Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Yes George but remember this ok that when it asks you to "Press any key to boot from CD" after the initial one, PRESS NOTHING or you will end up with multiple partitions. Just leave it to install. Quote
geo940 Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 Thanks for that will definately remember to do that Quote
