TheSlee Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I am just posting to see if there is any software around that I can use to make my PC run more efficiently. my PC sometimes seems to run rather sluggish despite the fact that the CPU is only at 30% usage (it never goes above 30%) and a small percentage of RAM is also in use. Is there anything I can do to make my PC run more efficiently?? Quote
smajer Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Hello,, There are a lot of things you can do, also alot of variables if you don't know what you are looking for or to fix exactly. Some things you can do: Run Windows Cleanup Defrag harddrive Run some performance applications such as 'CCleaner' Backup Registry and go through it and delete any useless entries (there are a few programs for this, I suggest you read up and don't just run the first one you see) Check system temperatures Check process', minimize running only whats necessary I'm sure the list is much larger but those are a few places you can start, my favorite option? Backup, reload windows :) Quote
Jelly Bean Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Nice post smajer. The Slee if you post your computer hardware specs and what OS you are running maybe we can give you some advice on upgrades you could possibly install. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Plastic Nev Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I will add that CCleaner should only be run in its cleaning mode and not in the registry. I also do not recommend anyone clearing stuff out of the registry without having a great deal of knowledge about such things. One wrong move or deletion can stop the system dead, and can only be retrieved with a reinstall of the operating system. Beside which, Windows in its present format just ignores wrong or faulty entries anyway, so clearing them out rarely helps the overall speed. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? samuria Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 You need to be more specific about it going slow. Do you mean slow to start, slow to load software, slow on the internet? One of the first thing is to check whats running at startup as you may be loading loads of rubbish thats slowing the pc down. Run msconfig and if possible post the results Quote
