A post-Christmans surge took Mac online usage to 8% in the final days of 2007, and has the pundits agreeing that Mac usage will hit 10% in 2008.

This seems to be at the expense of Windows, which has seen its overall market share drop by 2% since the start of 2007.

However, Vista continued its slow rise, hitting the 10.5% mark in December (a little surprising that Vista hasn't seen the surge that the Mac has).

IE's share has dropped by 4% since the start of the year, with most of the losses going to Firefox and Safari.

With a new batch of Macs due in the next few weeks and more gadetry rumoured for later in the year, then it's pretty much a no-brainer that Macs on the desktop will hit double figures. But Apple is also taking no prisoners in the mobile space; if other OSX-based devices appear as well as improved iPhones, then by the time Windows7 makes an appearance, OSX may be the most popular client OS on the internet.
