Plastic Nev Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 No IE onboard Windows 7 in Europe European buyers of Windows 7 will have to download and install a web browser for themselves. The above comes from the BBC with quotes from Microsoft, here- BBC NEWS | Technology | No IE onboard Windows 7 in Europe If they go ahead with this for any or all of Europe, including us in the UK then what now? Well that may be down to the manufacturer who may or may not include a browser in their OEM version for a branded machine, but for the home builder who buys a full retail, or even an OEM disk to install the operating system, how do you go on from there? The answer is, that if you plan on building a new one to install Windows 7 on it, you need to obtain a browser with the machine you are using now, for future install later. Just go to Firefox, Opera, even Microsoft if you do think you need Internet Explorer, and download the browser of choice to your downloads folder or similar, then either copy it to disk or memory stick. Once your new system is built, just install it from there. Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. DarkLord7854 Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Found this funny, especially considering you don't hear them whining that Apple bundle iLife & Safari and stuff with their OS.. Oh well Just call me.... DL. :p
Ravon Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Its nothing to do MS this time its European governements anti trust suits. There are versions of XP for Europe which does not have media player in fact there are 3 versions K N and KN all slightly different . Anybody who can not find a way around finding a browser should not be installing one. I have seen quite a few make a fuss of this but I see it as a none issue
chris lovett Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 No IE onboard Windows 7 in Europe QUOTE] This is insane! INSANE! i think this is insane. How can they stop them from supplying IE7 i mean if people don't want IE 7, then don't use it! New users don't know which browser to trust and not to trust and in my experience the support you gain from microsoft means you will be better off with IE7. I'm annoyed now. This is insane. If Computers always worked i would be out of a job. This is why i love to hate computers. :)
wellies Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 This is insane! INSANE! i think this is insane. I can see you're not very keen on this idea Chris :). I don't think it will create too much of a problem for us though. You can be sure that Microsoft will make it easy for those who want IE8 to get it installed. Also, the way I understand it, the issue doesn't really affect those who buy their computers with Windows 7 already installed. This would be the vast majority of people. Computer vendors can put whatever browser they want to on the computers they sell ..and that's probably going to be IE8. The issue more affects those who buy the Windows 7 installation disk in order to install the OS themselves. These are likely to be the more computer-knowledgeable types who will have no worries or difficulty about installing a browser of choice. All in all, not so bad perhaps.
