Viewing other 2003 servers in windows 2000 server terminal service

hbg-tst doesn't show up on hbg-sql session manager, because hbg-sql is

running windows 2000, and hbg-tst is windows 2003. For some reason, win2k

can't see sessions on win2k3. I'm looking into a way to resolve that.

 

I'm also looking into a way to automatically log users off if they've been

idle for an extended amount of time.

Do both servers join to domain?

 

What user account do you use to run Terminal Services Manager (I assume

session manager you're referring to is Terminal Services Manager)?

 

on the Windows 2000 server, run

qwinsta.exe /server:hbg-tst

what output do you get?

 

It is also possible that you're affected by the windows 2003 firewall. Try

to temporary turn it off to see if it helps.

 

To set idle time limit on windows 2003, run tscc.msc, goto RDP-Tcp->Sessions

tab.

yes both servers join the domain

I use my acount wich is an admin acount

yes this is the terminal services manager

I'll post results as soon as I can do this.

ok I found the fix it is as follows:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

2. Locate and then click the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server

3. Change the value of the TSAdvertise DWORD value from 0 to 1.

4. Quit Registry Editor.

5. Restart the computer.

OK, so your hbg-tst server is not a Terminal Server, it has only

Remote Desktop for Administration enabled. That explains it, those

(and XP clients) don't advertise themselves, otherwise you would see

every 2003 server and every XP client on the network in the terminal

Services Manager.
