Terminal services and delay in sound redirection

Hi there,

I have a DSS player running on terminal server (W2K3). This program play’s

recorded sound files. Sound redirection works good only there is a delay. You

notice this delay the moment you press the stop button in the DSS player. The

sound file continues for two seconds.

I’ve been testing with DSS, WAV and MP3’s. All these extensions have the

same symptoms.

Possible causes (in my analysis, let me know if there are more):

1. the DSS player

2. rdp audio driver

3. audio redirection from TS to Client

Actions taken:

- used different file extensions

- used different programs: windows media player has the same delay (this

exclude cause 1)

- when I use the DSS player on a local workstation there is no delay

- tested with different clients. WinXPpro laptop and Linux thin client

(Igel). Both clients have the same delay.

Is there anyone with experience in audio redirection on a terminal server

who can help me?

Idea’s:

- Maybe there is a setting to change the buffer size of the audio redirection?

- Is there a possibility to install a different RDP Audio Driver?

My target: remove the delay of two seconds

Sincerely,

Yuri

Re: Terminal services and delay in sound redirection

I don't think that there's much you can do about this.

Audio quality in rdp is not configurable, and not very good.

Audio quality in Citrix is configurable in 3 levels, with different

bandwidth usage, and the quality is much better.

But despite the quality in Citrix being better, I have recorded the

same delay as you mention.
