Guest Robert L. \(MS-MVP\) Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Re: VSS question - Windows 2003 When renaming the System Volume Information Folder if VSS Service is running or ran before, you may receive the error message "Cannot rename system volume information: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use". You may try this: 1. Open Service management console, make sure the VSS Service startup type is set to manual. 2. Restart the computer and double confirm its status is Stopped. 3. Rename the System Volume Information folder. 4. Start the Volume Shadow Copy service again. 5. Wait for couple minutes and you will find a new System Volume Information folder is created. Please post back with the result. -- Bob Lin, MS-MVP, MCSE & CNE Networking, Internet, Routing, VPN Troubleshooting on http://www.ChicagoTech.net How to Setup Windows, Network, VPN & Remote Access on http://www.HowToNetworking.com "Sabo, Eric" <sabo_e@cup.edu> wrote in message news:OAwKUinTIHA.4532@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > When I try to rename the folder it gives me access denied. > > > "Robert L.
