Guest rumbum Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Hello, I'd like to use Remote Desktop from and to the same machine. For this purpose I created a user who doesn't have administrator rights, and added its login to the list of users who can connect via Remote Desktop. After I fill the login and password fields and click connect I get the following message: "The client could not connect. You are already connected to the console of this computer. A new console session cannot be established." Could anyone explain why it is impossible to have Remote Desktop session for which origin and destination of connection are the same? Or maybe I do something wrong, and more need to be set up for such cases? I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you rumbum
Guest - Michel Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 RE: Remote Desktop problem Hi, If I read the error correctly, I think you are trying to establish an RDP session to session 0 of the machine, for instance by using the Remote Desktop Client (mstsc.exe) with the /console switch. You cannot logon to the console (session 0) twice, so please make sure you're logged on locally and that you run mstsc without switches to establish a RDP session to another session than 0. That should work (tested with W2K3 Enterprise R2). Kind regards, Michel "rumbum" wrote: > Hello, > > I'd like to use Remote Desktop from and to the same machine. Indeed, I am logged in on console (session 0) and when I invoke mstsc.exe from command prompt in the form mstsc /v:server_name I get the same error. Should there be more to set up for such connections? Any additional services running or something else? Kind regards, rumbum
Guest - Michel Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Re: Remote Desktop problem Hmm, I'm kinda lost. Trying to replay the error on my testmachine, I can only establish this error when using the /console switch when I'm already logged on. I changed merely all TS Configuration and RDP configuration settings with no result. Might it be that your default.rdp file has been modified to connect to the console without your knowing? Guest - Michel Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Re: Remote Desktop problem Only the Terminal Services service needs to be running. In the Terminal Services Configuration the licensing mode should be on Remote Desktop for Administration. Also, on the Remote tab of the Computer Properties, Enable Remote Desktop on this computer should be checked. "rumbum" wrote: > - Michel wrote: > > Hmm, I'm kinda lost.
