Guest Jamie Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I have a problem when running backups on my Small Business Server 2003 R2 service pack 2 with the VSS. When running backups with retrospect 7.5 I get lots of errors: Trouble reading files, error -1018 (not enough memory) http://kb.dantz.com/display/2/articleDirect/index.asp?aid=7962&r=0.3537104 Which I have been told is fixed with the following patch: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833167 However the patch does not install it gives the following error: Setup has detected that the service pack level of the system is newer than that of the update you are applying. You do not need this update. I do need some kind of update as I receive lots of errors when backing up that seem to indicate VSS.
Guest daveg Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 VSS Error when doing backups Try the current rollup for VSS: Availability of a Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) update rollup package for Windows Server 2003 to resolve some VSS snapshot issues http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349 After installing the hot fix, if the issue is not resolved, please review the link below. Error message when you run the "vssadmin list writers" command on a Windows Server 2003-based computer: "Error: 0x8000FFFF" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940184/en-us

Guest Jamie Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 RE: VSS Error when doing backups Dave, I tried the VSS update patch. The error still occurs when retrospect does the backup of the mailbox's. I am not sure about the second link you posted, it does not appear to be related to my error. I have not seen the VSS writers error described in that KB article. Guest Jamie Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Re: VSS Error when doing backups Robert, I am unclear on rebuilding the SYSVOL in this manner, is there a more detailed instruction of this procedure? Cheers "Robert L. (MS-MVP)" wrote: > Also you may want to rebuild the System Volume Information Folder.
