Application Licensing query

Hi all,

After having spoken to some helpful people in the Networking forum, to solve

our Branch user problems we are looking at deploying terminal services.

Looking at the licensing side, I need to basically need to find a cost

efficient way to do the following...

Set up terminals with a single IP address (Of the TS farm), setup some kind

of mapping so that one set of users logon to Terminal Servers with only

Microsoft Outlook installed, and the other set of users get automatically

directed to servers with Office Standard installed...

I had looked at denying one set of users access to the full office suite via

ntfs permissions or group policy software restrictions, but apparently this

is not acceptable for Microsoft licensing...

How can this be achieved? I am looking at minimal deployment (Hence the

single IP requirement, and this also would allow any user regardless of

status to login to any terminal and get the right details.

Any help?

RE: Application Licensing query

Hi,

Thanks for that, I did not realize Softgrid did that...

So what I am being told is that in order to be compliant with Microsoft

licensing, I need to purchase and install/configure another Microsoft

product, which again requires its own licensing cals...

Surely there must be a better way than this, it seems like a real lot of

work and cost...

I do not need virtualized applications like softgrid delivers, just the

ability to direct terminal service users one way or the other based on group

membership, so I do not have to splash out on full Office Standard licences

for 1500 people... and I can do this...

Majority of users (1350) -> TS environment with IE and Outlook + Free office

viewers

Miniority of users (150) -> TS environment with IE and Full Office Standard

Surely this can be done?

RE: Application Licensing query

Yes, I totally understand your concern.

In this case I suggest to deploy 2 separate terminal server farms. Per

requirement one farm.

Then your licenses are straight forward.

Best regards,

Yuri
