Guest Joe Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 We have a production database server which is probably at about 350 G now in terms of disk space used by data and log files, there are four databases on the server which is running SQL Server 2005 Standard edition SP2 with 16 G RAM. Performance is OK, it's not great obviously our clients want much better. I can go to the microsoft product page http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/enterprise/comparison.mspx for a comparison between Standard and Enterprise but because of the big difference in cost I need to be able to be sure going to Enterprise at this point is the right thing to do. Would anyone be able to give me any thoughts on if there are other load/performance configurations or techniques I could use with the existing Standard Edition to perhaps improve performance for example would clustering give a performance boost or is that really for failover support. I'm not really dealt with databases of this size before so I'm looking for any advice on how better to make the call on which SQL Server version we should be using.
