Guest George Schneider Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I've installed WSUS 3.0 and I'm havying trouble getting it to reconize any of the computers in my OU for testing. Here's what've done: I cretaed a new OU, moved a computer into the OU. Created a Group Policy where I specified the Intranet server http://servername in both the set the intranet update service for detecting updates and set the intranet statistics server and configured automatic updates auto download and scheduled the install for sunday at 3:00 AM. Also to note I installed the administrative website on port 8530 according to IIS. Does this port need to be added in the group policy object where I specify the URL of the server? I forced the refresh of group policy on the local computer and mnaualy initiated detection by wsus server. My computer is still not showing up on the Update Service Console. Am I missing something? Is there a way to use the console or mange this other than being at the physical computer.
Guest Morgan che Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 RE: WSUS 3.0 Dear George, Thanks for your posting. I am sorry we are not best support resource for WSUS issue. To ensure this issue receive more effective attention, you can post it in the Microsoft.public.windowsupdate newsgroup. The engineers there are specializing in Windows update relative issues. However, I am also glad to share my suggestion with you. 1. "Does this port need to be added in the group policy object where I specify the URL of the server?" Yes, you can specify the URL at "Group Policy->Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows Components->Windows Update->Specify intrasite Microsoft update service location" 2. After finishing and application Group Policy configuration, please check the below register value on the client computers: Run regedit command on those problematic computer and go to HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate registry key to verify that the following settings are there: WUServer - http://<WSUSserver name>:8530 WUStatusServer - http://<WSUSserver >:8530 Please ensure these two registry entries have correct value in conjunction with what you configure in Group Policy. If not, it can approve the application of group policy occurs some issues. Please run the RSOP on your client for further troubleshooting. About how to use RSOP to troubleshoot, please refer to: Viewing RSoP query results http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/library/64c6f0f4-6099-4da2-94 11-354dec73ca401033.mspx I hope this helps. If anything is unclear about Group Policy issue, please feel free to let me know. Thanks. Guest Novo9 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 RE: WSUS 3.0 Hi Morgan, Based on my experience, we need to configure a DWORD registry on the client. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU] "UseWUServer"=dword:00000001 In this way, the client can automatically update security patch from WSUS server. I like Microsoft Newsgroup. -- MVP-Windows Shell Nemo "Morgan che(MSFT)" wrote: > Dear George, > > Thanks for your posting. > > I am sorry we are not best support resource for WSUS issue. Guest Morgan che Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 RE: WSUS 3.0 Dear Nemo, Thanks for your assistance. It's possible. If George is in a domain environment, we can also use Group Policy (which I provided in my previous reply) to define the same settings. Have a great day!
