Hello again.

 

Over the last week or two, whenever I switch-on the p.c (at start-up), a panel appears on the Toolbar (on the bottom right) telling me, 'Installing Driver Device Software.' And then, a panel opens up on the screen with the following options within it:

 

'Found new hardware'

 

'Windows needs to install driver software for your Unknown Device.'

 

'Locate and install driver sotware (recommended).'

 

'Ask me again later.'

 

'Don't show this message again for this device.'

 

 

The point is, I haven't installed any new hardware???

Furthermore, it won't go away whatever I click-on from the above options.

 

Any advice please.

Right click on Computer and choose Properties.

 

Click Device Manager and tell us if there are any question, exclamation or red X marks against any entry in there.

Have you installed a program called Driver Detective?

 

Look in Add/Remove Programs.

No exclamation marks, red X's, etc. Though, under Network Adapters, there are 5-entries called, Unknown Device.

Look in Add/Remove Programs.

 

I have not installed this.

 

I looked under, Uninstall or change a program (can't see Add/Remove Programs - on Vista?). Doesn't show there.

In Vista Add/Remove is now known as Programs and Features Flame.

Yes, under Programs and Features, I looked at the list of programs listed under Uninstall or Change a Program. There was no program listed as Driver Detective.

 

I am quite sure that I have not recently connected any new devices or hardware. :cool:

It's worth looking at what drivers may be missing.

 

Can you post the make and model number of your PC, and we can have a look at the possibilites.

It's a Dell Inspiron 530S E8400 Core 2 Duo Processor (3.00GHz, 1444MHz FSB, 6MB cache).

Hello flame.

 

Enter the information of your computer using the choices box:

 

Dell - Drivers and Downloads

 

You can simply choose Select Model box and then input the information.

 

You can download network drivers and updated drivers from the list after you choose which operating system is yours.

 

Ok so there is seven in the network list and this can be confusing.So unless you know exactly which is pertaining to your computer you can download and save them all.

 

Then use device manager and right click choose update driver,you have a choice to search online or manualy,you can do it manualy by browsing to the folder you downloaded the drivers to.

 

This then should ensure the correct driver is installed.

Yes, I'll follow your instructions, and get back to you if it's solved it! But, I've had this p.c about seven months now, isn't it a bit strange that it's suddenly discovered that a driver is missing for so-called NEW hardware?

The notification panel looks as if it comes from Microsoft, should I ask them about it?

 

 

The next time you see this "notification" do a screenshot by pressing PrtScr (Print Screen) and then open Paint and hit Ctrl + V.

 

Save it as a .jpeg or .png file and then post it back here using Manage Attachments.

This is what happened:

 

Prompt window appeared: 'Windows needs your permission to continue.'

Clicked-on that.

 

Then...

'Installing device driver software.'

 

Searching Windows Update...

 

Unidentified Device..........Pending (changed to Failed, against each in turn)

Unidentified Device

Unidentified Device

Unidentified Device

Unidentified Device

 

Then...

'Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device.'

 

'...found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.'

 

'Microsoft 6to4 adapter.'

 

'Insufficient system resources exists to complete the rquested service.'

 

Note:

The 'Unidentified Device' (x5) mentioned here, seems to relate to what I found listed before!

I suggest you download and install all "Urgent" drivers from here.

No, it's not on a network (home p.c.).

Why do you want to delete anything?

 

Please follow the instructions that have been provided so far with regard to the Urgent downloads from Dell.

 

Once you have installed the drivers you should not get any Found New Hardware pop ups.

 

If you do then there is more to this than meets the eye.

Since we last communicated, I've found this:

...and, also as below (which seems to have solved it!). When I entered '6to4 adapter' (google search) there were lots of people with the problem!

 

6to4 adapter is a component used for transmitting IPv6 packets trough IPv4 network correctly.

 

In some scenarios, there will be a code 31 or code 10 error appearing beside this component. A possible reason is, the network adapter doesn’t support this feature. You may update the driver for your network adapter or chipset, and then try to uninstall and reinstall the this component.

 

To uninstall the component, right-click the item in Device Manager and select Uninstall.

 

To reinstall the component, in Device Manager, Action – Add Legacy Hardware – Next – “Install the hardware that I manually select from a list” – Network adapters – Microsoft – Microsoft 6to4 Adapter – Next – Finish the wizard.

 

If the steps above doesn’t solve the problem, your network adapter is not a supportive one for this component. You can completely ignore this error, if there isn’t IPv6 network deployed in the environment. The error won’t affect your system.

 

To remove the error message, please right-click the Command Prompt and run as administrator, type the command netsh in 6to4 set state disable, press Enter. The component will be disabled and hidden.
